Coke head: Hopeless smuggler is caught with cocaine worth £850,000 hidden beneath her wig at Indian airport

This is the extraordinary moment a woman was arrested at an Indian airport after almost a kilo of cocaine was found hidden under her wig.

The smuggler, who hails from Entebbe in Uganda, was nabbed at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport via Nairobi, Kenya, on Tuesday.

A Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) official said the woman was in possession of 890 grams of cocaine, with a market value of approximately £844,699.

Acting on specific information, the Mumbai Zonal Unit of the DRI laid a trap at the airport on Tuesday and arrested the woman passenger.

Incredible video shows the moment airport security staff slowly cut and unraveled the woman's wig.

It took at least three security personnel to help cut and tear open the wig hiding the stash

Using a razor, they cut through until they discover a hidden stash in the woman's curls.

As a worker cuts away, two others help by tearing apart the wig while the woman lies on the ground.

DRI officials said they had debunked “numerous modus operandi” in the past, ranging from concealment methods such as concealing sanitary napkins, liquid cocaine in whiskey bottles, black cocaine and cocaine in moisturizer bottles.

The Times of India reports that the woman also hid cocaine in her bra and wig.

The drugs were seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 and the woman is being held while investigators investigate.

This isn't the first time criminals have used wigs to smuggle drugs through airport security.

Last year, two women were arrested in Colombia for trying to traffic cocaine by sewing the drug into their wigs.

Police found 900 grams of cocaine, wrapped in plastic, which was sewn to the fake hair before the woman admitted to hiding a further 200 grams in her genital area.

The second had 650 grams camouflaged in her wig and another 200 grams hidden, wrapped around a white bag in her vagina.
