The net appeared to contain large blocks of cocaine, wrapped in black plastic.

He uploaded images of the extraordinary find to social media.

The fisherman’s discovery comes as New South Wales’ love affair with cocaine has exploded over the last 20 years, with the city-wide appetite for the drug becoming increasingly “insatiable”.

Figures from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics released this year showed a 12.5 per cent increase in arrests for cocaine possession and use over the five years to 2020, while drugs such as ecstasy had lost popularity. .

The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission suggests that the national base of cocaine users is “widening”, with increasing social acceptance of the drug.

Cocaine drugmakers in South America view Australia as a lucrative market for large exports because of its high price – around $300 a gram – on the streets of Sydney.

Some social media users joked about the fisherman’s shocking discovery.

‘From ‘spearfishing’ to ‘line fishing’, wrote one.

Another said: ‘Congratulations on your early retirement.’

“We fished for a week straight… without sleep,” a third joked.

Quinn is seen pulling the package, encased in a web of ropes, to the side of his boat and watching it.

Others warned Quinn about the risks of finding the lot and urged him to call the police.

Don’t even touch it. Trust me, there is always someone watching,” a man replied.

“It’s not even worth touching,” a second commented.

The TikTok clip went viral, racking up more than 700,000 views.
