Police release image of man wanted after scalding coffee was poured over a baby at a park

A nine-month-old baby had to undergo surgery after a stranger threw a scalding hot drink over him. Police have released a photo of a man wanted in connection with the incident.

The baby was attending a family picnic at Hanlon Park in Coorparoo in Brisbane’s south when an unknown man approached the group around noon on Tuesday.

The stranger poured a hot liquid, believed to be coffee, over the nine-month-old baby and then fled.

The baby was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital with burns to his chest and face and has since undergone surgery.

The baby’s family told media they were traumatized and saddened by the incident.

On Wednesday, police released CCTV footage of a man who may be able to help with the investigation into the attack.

Shortly after the incident, the man can be seen running away from the public park.

He is described as being 30 to 40 years old, of proportionate build and tanned skin.

He wore a black hat, glasses, a shirt and shorts.
