The new Marvel Studios blockbuster stars Cobie as Commander Maria Hill, a highly trained weapons expert and hand-to-hand fighter trying to save Earth from an invasion of shape-shifting aliens known as Skrulls.
Commander Hill tries to keep order by calling on Samuel L. Jackson’s character Nick Fury as the threat looms.
The Skrulls grow increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress in finding a new home for their displaced population.
While talking to Vanity purse in March, Jackson described the Skrulls as innocent victims of a galactic war in need of help.
Jackson explained that his character Fury was “trying to find them a place to live.” Adding: “He promised them they would find them (The Skrulls) a planet or somewhere they could be. And that’s not going so well.’
Fury turns to a Skrull named Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), who teamed up with humans to protect Earth in the 2019 movie Captain Marvel and, at his request, posed as Fury in Spider-Man: Far From Home, also released in 2019.
When Fury returns to Earth, he loses all the powers he had. During a literal game of chess between Commander Hill and Fury, she warns him of the great dangers they face.
“You’re not ready for this Fury. There is a very real threat,” she says.
Adding, “You always told me there was no shame in walking away when the steps are precarious. So check your position; otherwise someone will get hurt.’
