A major music festival has been canceled just days before it was due to start, with the organizer blaming the cost of living crisis.

Coastal Jam organizers announced on January 13 that the event will not take place on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

Event organizer Adam Metwally said the decision was not made lightly.

“Everyone I know has felt the pain of the cost of living crisis and one of the consequences of this has been the much slower than usual and last-minute sales of boutique events like Coastal Jam,” he said.

‘(Music fans) now only have enough money for a few things, which of course leads to the big festivals, with big international tours being the priority, which I completely understand.

“Unfortunately, this has meant that smaller boutique festivals and events like ours have fallen by the wayside.”

Mr Metwally said he was doing everything he could to keep ticket prices as low as possible, but said this was not enough to keep the festival going.

“I’m sorry I let people down,” he said.

More to come.
