In a public statement, the Coal Ministry said that Coal India Limited's (CIL) production increased to 71.86 million tonnes (mt) in the month of December 2023 from 66.37 million tonnes in December 2022, with a growth of 8.27 per year. cents.
Cumulative coal production (till December 2023) has seen a huge jump to 684.31 million tonnes in FY23-24, compared to 608.34 million tonnes in the same period in FY22-23. A growth of 12.47 percent, the statement said.
Coal shipments in December 2023 reached 86.23 million tons, registering a growth of 8.36 percent over last year. Coal shipments by CIL stood at 66.10 tonnes in December 2023, compared to 62.66 tonnes in December 2022, registering a growth of 5.49 per cent.
The ministry said the growth in coal production is attributed to coal PSUs. “This underlines the commitment of the coal supply chain and ensures seamless distribution of coal across the country. “The Ministry of Coal reaffirms its commitment to maintaining consistent coal production and distribution, ensuring uninterrupted supply for a reliable and resilient energy sector,” the ministry said.
National miner CIL said in a separate statement that all its branches have registered positive growth and it has produced 532 million tonnes of coal by the end of the nine months of fiscal 2024, registering a year-on-year growth of 11 percent. “Production in volume terms increased sharply by 53 million tonnes over the April-December period of FY2023. On a progressive basis, CIL has maintained double-digit growth since July 2023,” the statement said.
It also added that CIL has supplied a record volume of 98 million tonnes to Non-Regulated Sector (NRS) consumers till December FY2024. This is a record increase of 23 million tonnes with a growth of 31 percent compared to 75 million tonnes in the same period last financial year. , CIL said.
