Deion Sanders' influence on Colorado continues to expand as the Buffaloes' football coach has inspired a course to be offered this upcoming spring semester at UC Boulder's main campus.

The course, titled “Prime Time: Public Performance and Leadership,” is derived from Sanders' nicknames “Prime Time” and “Coach Prime” and is offered to students majoring in Media, Communications and Information.

The course description reads: “Intercollegiate athletics and the college athlete experience are undergoing fundamental transformations as athletes take control of their name, image and likeness and begin monetizing their personal brands for the first time.

“This course views collegiate and professional athletes as a special kind of public figure, whose public persona can create opportunities to earn revenue from sponsors and commercial interests, as well as influential advocates for social justice and cultural influence.”

Sanders was an example of how athletes can market themselves over the course of his career.

Not only did Sanders have an outstanding athletic career that spanned the NFL and MLB, he became a pop culture figure with his authenticity and candor.

This continued into Sanders' college coaching career, which began when he led the Jackson State Tigers to a 27-6 record in three seasons.

In 2023, Sanders took the job at Colorado and turned the Buffaloes into one of the most watched teams in college football.

Sanders led Colorado to a 3-0 start this season, including an upset over TCU, which played in the 2022 National Championship Game, on opening night.

Despite finishing the season with a 4-8 record (1-8 conference) at the bottom of the PAC 12, Sanders filled seats and inspired big names like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Lil Wayne and Wu Tang Clan to attend games live.

Sanders also generated a $113.2 million economic impact for the city of Boulder from football game revenue.
