A light aircraft assisting firefighters battling intense bushfires is said to have crashed in ‘difficult terrain’ in the Australian outback.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash near the Eloise Copper Mine, about 70 kilometers south of Cloncurry in north-west Queensland.
Police said the crash was “unsurvivable” but could not confirm how many people were on board.
“Officers from Mount Isa and a rescue helicopter are attempting to reach the aircraft which is in difficult terrain,” a spokeswoman said.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) has confirmed the aircraft was providing support to the state’s ongoing bushfire crisis at the time.
The aircraft was en route from Toowoomba to Mount Isa at the time.
