Mavericks star Luka Doncic appeared to eject a Phoenix Suns fan in response to criticism of his conditioning on Wednesday night in Dallas.

“Luka, you’re tired!” The Suns fan was heard shouting in video footage that has since gone viral. “Get your ass on the treadmill!”

Doncic, who has been criticized in the past for his conditioning, gestures to safety during the play, moments before the Suns fan was ejected during Phoenix’s 132-109 win at American Airlines Arena. ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that Doncic’s safety directive was a direct response to the “treadmill” comment.

But speaking to reporters afterwards, the 24-year-old Slovenian emphasized that the issue with the fan went deeper than one big joke.

“He cursed me out the whole first half too,” said Doncic, who explained that he would “never throw a fan out,” but he felt the man had crossed a line.

“(The fans) paid for tickets, but I had enough,” Doncic said. “It’s a bit of frustration.”

Doncic also had a tense conversation with MacMahon about the incident.

“I knew you’d be the first one to always say something bad about me,” Doncic told MacMahon, who had a similarly controversial conversation with Mavs coach Jason Kidd in November.

The Mavericks’ guards continued to insist that MacMahon wanted to criticize him, while other members of the media insisted that they also noticed Doncic’s request to have the fan removed from the unit.

“A few of us actually tweeted about it,” a reporter is heard saying during the post-match press conference.

Doncic never explained what else the man had said to him that prompted him to eject the fan, eventually telling reporters, “It’s all over.”

Retired NBA forward Eddie Johnson was quick to bash Doncic on social media, but he was also quick to point out that he isn’t the only player to have fans kicked out of games.

“Luka isn’t the only player removing fans,” Johnson wrote on X. “These rabbit ears of players are crazy. We’ve dealt with Robin Ficker in Washington, Leon the Barber in Detroit and a host of fans in Philadelphia and Utah and not once have we asked for their removal. Stop!’

Other players who have been criticized for removing fans include Lakers star LeBron James and Doncic’s Mavericks teammate Kyrie Irving.

However, Irving has also responded to the fans in the same way, once scaring off Boston Celtics fans.
