In October 2021, the family suffered their worst nightmare after Cleo, then aged four, was snatched from a tent during a camping trip about 50 miles north of their hometown of Carnarvon.

Her disappearance made international headlines and led to a large-scale police search.

An 18-day search led to the dramatic discovery of the child, who had been locked in a house just miles from the family home on the Pilbara coast.

After more than two weeks of searching, detectives found Cleo at the home of 37-year-old Terence Kelly following a tip.

The moment officers first saw the four-year-old after he broke open a locked door to the house was captured on camera.

An officer asked the young girl her name, to which she famously replied, “My name is Cleo.”

Kelly was sentenced in April to thirteen years and six months behind bars.
