Cleaner: These are the three ‘red flag’ clients I’d never go near when looking for new homes to clean

  • A professional cleaner has listed the three ‘red flag’ customers she avoids at work
  • These include people who say ‘it’s not that bad, it shouldn’t take too long’
  • Kacie, from the Big Clean Co, also avoids people who have had many cleaners
  • She thinks the problem is the customer rather than the cleaner
  • Finally, Kacie avoids customers who try to lower the price from the start

A professional cleaner has listed the three ‘red flag’ clients she wouldn’t go near if she was looking for a new job, and it’s bad news if you’ve ever been one to say, ‘It’s not so bad, it shouldn’t be too long’ long’.

Kacie, who runs The Big Clean Co in Melbourne, said she’s been “in the industry” long enough to know a warning sign when she sees one — and there are three types of people she doesn’t trust in her trade.

“The first is when someone says ‘it’s not that bad, it shouldn’t take too long,'” Kacie explained in a TikTok video.

“In my experience, that often means it hasn’t been cleaned in over six months, but I just don’t want to pay a lot, so I’m getting a little suspicious of that statement.”

The second type of person Kacie says she often encounters is a potential client who says they’ve had “a lot of cleaners and just can’t find a good one.”

‘I always think to myself; is it the cleaner or is it the customer who is the problem here,” she said.

Finally, Kacie said she disagrees if anyone tries to negotiate the price:

“If a customer doesn’t already value what we do, it doesn’t get any better in my experience,” she explains.

More than 10,000 people who saw the clip quickly gave their own opinion.

Some said they work ’60 plus hour work weeks’ and so don’t have time to make their ‘place not bad’.

Others admitted that they are the “type of customer who cleans before the cleaner arrives” because they are ashamed.

“I don’t want to be judged,” someone said.

Some cleaners intervened, saying they were “grateful” that Kacie had “supported and validated” this.

Others asked what they could do in advance to make cleaning their homes easier.

Kacie replied, explaining, “I think if both sides’ expectations are clear and the $$ has been agreed, there really isn’t much to worry about.

“That’s always my main emphasis – clear expectations.”
