The TV presenter appeared in the fifth series of critically acclaimed podcasts Dish with Waitrose for a recent episode.
Speaking to podcast hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett, Claudia said she was asked to host the show three or four years ago but turned it down ‘because of the eyebrow licking’.
“And because of my innate laziness,” Claudia added, before saying she had recommended a host of other presenters who could take on the gig – which was filmed at Ardross Castle – instead.
But a boss at the BBC was determined to keep Claudia in the running for presenter and encouraged her to watch the Dutch version of the series – and soon the Strictly Come Dancing presenter was offering to fly her own train to Scotland. books.
She said: “I was like, ‘I’m really sorry I can’t go to Scotland for three and a half weeks, but thank you so much for thinking of me. And why don’t you ask the following people? you, bye.”
‘And they said: ‘Before you say no definitively, can we send you the tapes of the Dutch version?’
‘And I thought, “Yeah, okay, I really don’t get around to it…” and four days later, “Have you seen it yet?” I thought, no… I’m napping.’
Claudia continued, “And then I watched all twelve of them at once, which Ange will tell you was major, because I have to… I sleep at nine.

“So, and I thought, I can’t come to bed. And then I texted my boss at the BBC, Kate, and I said, “I’m booking my own train. Yes, I’m coming. I’m going to Inverness.”
Claudia described the game as ‘exceptional’, before saying: ‘But the people who make it are also exceptional.’
Later in the podcast, Claudia said the success of series one ‘left us breathless’. “I mean, Sarah, my boss, who is my producer, we were overwhelmed,” she added.
Claudia also revealed secrets of the show, explaining that the contestants were sent to separate houses after each day in the castle so they couldn’t confer – and only saw each other again at breakfast.
“The amazing thing about that castle is that when you leave the castle, there are so many tributaries,” she said.

“So everyone is marked by people, they have someone to look after them, and when they leave the castle they don’t see each other until they get to breakfast.”
The participants are not allowed to use their phones during filming and because it got dark very late in the Scottish Highlands, the days were long.
“What, what time do they go to bed?” Nick asked Claudia. “Like when you’re done for the evening and the hookah goes off, what time is that, approximately?”
Claudia replied: “Probably midnight,” before saying: “Because it’s getting dark, we’re so far north, it’s getting dark, incredibly late.”
To ensure that the faithful do not spot the Traitors together, everyone leaves at the same time in cars.
