Nostalgic Australians are sharing their excitement after discovering an old chocolate bar is back on supermarket shelves, but not in the way most people remember.
Polly Waffles was discontinued in 2009, but is making a comeback this April in a new bite-sized form.
Some fans are happy about the resurrection of the sweet treat, but others are not happy about it and wonder why the Polly Waffle couldn’t return to its original form.
The beloved candy was first introduced in 1947 and featured a marshmallow and wafer filling covered in milk chocolate.
The treat was later withdrawn from supermarket shelves due to poor sales.

In 2019, South Australian chocolate company Robern Menz, the same brand behind Violet Crumble, acquired the rights to recreate the bar.
Instead of the traditional bar, Polly Waffles will be available in milk chocolate and waffle-coated marshmallow bites.
Menz CEO Phil Sims said the chocolate will be back by the end of April after complications caused by the Covid pandemic thwarted production.
“Polly Waffle hadn’t been produced for over a decade when we bought it, so we basically had to start from scratch to figure out how to produce it in our factory in South Australia,” he said.
“What we couldn’t anticipate was the number of variables we had no control over, from COVID border closures limiting access to equipment, or updated expectations from retailers.”
Sims claimed that recreating the original bar would require more time and expense without guaranteeing the same Polly Waffle taste and quality that Aussies remember.
“It was so important to us that we didn’t put a substandard product on the market, especially one as beloved as Polly Waffle,” he said.

“Creating a Polly Waffle Bite was the most responsible way to bring the iconic brand back to reality.”
Many Aussies online were excited about the comeback and said they couldn’t wait to try the redesigned treat.
“Omg, cum in my belly,” said one foodie, while another added: “Yes, I’ve been waiting for this!”.
‘Sooo excited to try these! And also gluten-free, which is great!’ a third wrote.
“I’m so happy to have them back in whatever form they come in,” one person replied.
However, others said they had “mixed feelings” and were “disappointed” that the chocolate would not return to its original form.
“If they can’t hit the bar, these obviously won’t come close. And they cost $10 a bag,” one man complained.
“They tried to fix the bar, but it wasn’t enough. This better be amazing,” said a second.
“Of course I’m going to try them, but I seriously doubt they’ve managed to recreate the perfect ratio of chocolate, wafer and marshmallow in a bite-sized ball,” a third added.
