Claims emerge that Guy Sebastian is a ‘total diva’ on the set of The Voice and has the shortest temper of all coaches as Seven reins in his ‘rock star treatment’

Guy Sebastian may be fed up with his role as a coach on The Voice, as the singer is said to be a ‘total diva’ on set.

Guy, 42, has now been a coach for six seasons and a Voice insider told Daily Mail Australia that the reality TV veteran was becoming increasingly angry.

“A few crew members noticed he was more demanding this year,” the source said.

‘The rumours started during the filming of the show earlier this year: Guy would be a real diva on set and not easy to get along with.’

They added that after six years on the reality show, the novelty of the job may be starting to wear off.

“That’s what happens when you’ve been sitting in those chairs for too long. That’s why The Voice has the highest coach turnover of any singing competition in the world,” they said.

‘On such long days you can get irritated and I assure you the novelty wears off.’

Despite the high turnover of coaches – 20 since the show premiered in 2012 – Guy’s stint is only second to Delta Goodrem, who holds the record with eight seasons at Channel Nine.

It looks like Guy Sebastian is starting to tire of his role as a judge on The Voice, as claims emerge that the singer is a ‘total diva’ on set

“Guy has been on the show for six seasons and that’s about the time most coaches leave,” the source said.

‘The Madden Brothers left after five seasons. Boy George and Kelly Rolland only did four. The only other judge to stay in the chair longer was Delta Goodrem, who holds the record for eight seasons on Channel Nine.’

According to the source, Guy’s irritable behaviour on set could be due to the different production values at Seven than when the show aired on Nine.

“The Voice Australia is also airing for a lot less money now, since moving to Channel Seven,” the source said.

‘The old network’s budget was huge and every day of filming was like a rock concert.

“That guy remembers what it was like to be treated like a rock star and he really notices the difference in the production.”

The source added that Guy likely found it difficult to adjust.

“You can imagine the diva demands of some of the international coaches when this show first started. The perks were outrageous back then,” they said.

‘You could ask anything and the coaches had multiple supervisors who made sure that every little request was met.’

A Channel Nine source told Daily Mail Australia the network has axed the show due to rising production costs.

“One of the reasons Channel Nine let the show go was because of rising costs,” the Nine source said. “They didn’t want to make the same sacrifices as Channel Seven.

‘Nine didn’t want to shoot the show this way and they didn’t think the show would work if they scaled it down.’

The source claimed that a possible reason for Guy's irritable behaviour on set was the different levels of production value on Seven compared to when the show aired on Channel Nine. Guy is pictured with fellow Voice coach Adam Lambert LeAnn Rimes and Kate Miller-Heidke

However, the source added that Nine now regrets cancelling the popular show, saying the network is “enviously” eyeing the ratings for the new season.

“Channel Nine regrets dropping the series and is jealous of the ratings, especially as The Voice Australia has beaten The Block on a number of occasions in the current ratings battle,” the network said.

According to a source at The Voice, the filming schedule contributed to Guy’s “hot temper,” which was made even more apparent because fellow coaches Adam Lambert, Kate Miller-Heidke and LeAnn Rimes were new to the format.

'The Voice Australia is also made for a lot less money now, since it moved to Channel Seven,' the source said. 'The budget on the old network was huge and filming every day was like a 'rock concert'.

“Channel Seven’s filming days are long and you have to give 150 per cent while the cameras are rolling,” they said.

‘Guy had the shortest fuse compared to LeAnn Rimes, Kate Miller-Heidke and Adam Lambert, and that was especially evident since it was the first time for these three coaches to compete on a singing show like this.

“I think that’s why the producers noticed a change in his behavior.”

The source further claimed that Guy was “coaching” his fellow cast members on where to focus their energy on the show, which irked producers.

“Guy often gave the others tips on how to save and where to put their energy and where not to,” they said.

“Some of the producers seemed a little irritated by that kind of negativity.”

It was also suggested that Guy might sit out a season to rekindle his enthusiasm for coaching, as the high price he pays to be on the show could keep him in the chair for a while.

“It may be time to let Guy sit out for a season, but there’s no doubt he’s the most popular judge on the show,” the source said.

“It would be a big gamble to see how the show would go without him.

“Guy has the highest price tag and that’s against the cost of international coaches. I wonder if he’s willing to part with that kind of money.”

Sebastian is certainly no stranger to the world of reality TV, a side job he combines with a successful singing career.

After winning the first season of Australian Idol in 2003, the singer went on to compete in numerous television singing competitions, including as a mentor in the first season of the short-lived series It Takes Two.

In 2010, Guy joined the cast of X-Factor, sitting in the judge’s chair alongside Natalie Imbruglia, Kyle Sandilands and Ronan Keating.

He eventually left the show after the fourth season, only to return two years later along with Chris Isaak, Dannii Minogue and James Blunt.

The Like It Like That hitmaker then replaced Joe Jonas on The Voice, alongside Delta Goodrem, Kelly Rowland and Boy George.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Sebastian, Channel Seven and Channel Nine for comment.
