CITY WHISPERS: The season of goodwill ends early for Eco-buildings

There was unrest at tiddler construction group Eco Buildings after it announced the suspension of its executive vice-chairman Dominic Redfern.

The company remained tight-lipped about the proceedings, saying in a one-sentence announcement that Redfern would be suspended “pending further investigation.”

Judging from the chat on some London stock forums, Redfern is unlikely to attract much sympathy.

Suspension: There was a commotion at preschool group Eco Buildings

“Good thing he no longer served a useful purpose… and the company will now save on his unnecessary compensation,” wrote one user on the stock chat site London South East.

“I had heard through the grapevine that he was a bit clueless and had a wet blanket,” said another.

Others were even bleaker, with one participant calling Eco Buildings a 'Mickey Mouse company', adding that it was now 'a matter of when it goes bankrupt, not if…'

The season of goodwill seems to be completely over – the claws are out.

THG boss in celebratory social media posts

The e-commerce boss posted to Instagram on Monday a photo of some of the younger members of the clan dressed in matching Christmas pajamas, including green trousers decorated with snowflakes.

Slow execution KO's Bain & Co Christmas party

As the holidays draw to a close, many will be reminiscing (or trying to forget) antics at their work Christmas party.

But the staff of US consulting giant Bain & Co will have no such problems.

Whispers hears that the company's UK office has canceled its celebratory event due to slow performance in 2023.

It means employees have missed what is usually a big affair, as Bain's previous Christmas get-togethers have taken place at high-profile locations including the Natural History Museum in South Kensington.

But Bain is not alone, with some companies choosing to forego their festive gatherings due to concerns about inappropriate behavior and cost pressures.

Not very festive, right?

The country is fighting a municipality and an activist group, Plataforma Stop Uranio, who are trying to stop the construction of the Retortillo mine.

The company suffered a blow Wednesday when a Spanish high court overturned previous rulings in its favor, effectively stripping Berkeley of two of its permits. The move sent shares down to their lowest level since December last year.

But the company remains impatient and says it will take the case to the country's Supreme Court.

As they say in Spain: Adelante!
