The chairman of the city’s watchdog is under fire for revealing the identity of a whistleblower.
Ashley Alder has been accused of breaching the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) code of conduct after allegedly breaching the confidentiality of a former employee who complained about opaque hiring practices.
He forwarded emails that mentioned his name, address or concerns, the Financial Times reported.

The employee was dismissed for alleged misconduct and lost an employment tribunal case – but has appealed – accusing the FCA of “incompetence”.
The FCA is investigating whether allegations of misconduct should be formally investigated internally.
The regulator said: ‘This is an exceptional case. The senior independent director will assess how this was handled.’
