Italian striker Ciro Immobile insists he ‘behaved correctly’ when a tram ‘ran a red light and crashed into his vehicle’ – after the tram driver blamed HIM for a shocking car accident

Lazio and Italy striker Ciro Immobile has claimed he behaved ‘properly’ after being involved in a car accident on Saturday evening in which his vehicle collided with a tram.
The 33-year-old – who has won 55 caps for Italy and scored 194 goals in 289 appearances for Lazio – saw his car break down after the crash.
Reports in Italy say he may have whiplash and a compound rib fracture, but is otherwise fine.
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport reported that while driving near Ponte Matteotti – which is just five minutes from Lazio’s Olympico stadium – a tram ran a red light and hit his car.
However, the tram driver gives a different version of events. He told Republic he “passed a green traffic light” and blamed Immobile for “coming at him at full speed.”

Immobile has now posted a statement insisting it “behaved properly” during the accident
Immobile was in the car with his two daughters at the time and other people were involved in the accident – including the tram passengers.
He claims he is not at fault for the accident, as a statement from his lawyer on Instagram read: “The thoughts of my client Ciro Immobile, who is shocked by what happened today, go to his two daughters and to the driver of the car. tram, whom he hopes will recover quickly.
‘[He is] Relieved that no one was seriously injured, knowing at this point that he acted correctly, he has full confidence in the authorities completing their investigation.”
The striker previously made a similar claim in a video is circulating on social media. When bystanders asked what had happened, Immobile said, “I turned a little bit to the left – you can even see the car was hit on one side only.
“The tram ran a red light, but now I don’t really feel like talking.” When asked how he was feeling, the assailant said, “I hurt my arm a little bit.”
Witnesses to the collision supported Immobile’s claims that the tram did not respect the red light, although the driver refutes this, citing Immobile’s Land Rover SUV vandalized after the incident.
They also stated that the striker accompanied an injured person to the hospital and checked their well-being after the crash.
The incident comes after Immobile ended a goalless streak by scoring in Lazio’s 3-0 win over Spezia in Serie A.

Maurizio Sarri’s side are currently second in Italy’s top flight after a fine season and look poised to reach the Champions League proper for the second time in 16 seasons.
Immobile is known as one of Italy’s greatest sharpshooters of all time, with 192 goals in 314 Serie A matches.
After breaking through as a youngster at Pescara and Genoa, his career also saw him represent Turin, Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Siena and Grosetto before moving to Lazio in 2016.
The Eagles return to action next Saturday with a home game against Torino, but it remains to be seen if Immobile will be fit enough to play.
