Devastated parents were shocked to discover that a popular diaper rash cream has been recalled for causing the very problem it is supposed to cure.

Baby care company Church & Dwight on Thursday recalled its Curash diaper rash cream after receiving reports from disgruntled parents that the cream caused adverse effects.

“We recently became aware of a possible adverse reaction regarding a short-term skin irritation associated with the use of two batches of Curash Nappy Rash Cream,” the company said.

‘In some people, increased skin sensitivity, redness or rash has been reported after application of the product from these two batches.

“The symptoms decreased after washing the affected skin with water.”

The company recalled batches 1116727 and 1118263 after parents reported that the cream was causing rashes.

The company recalled lots 1116727 and 1118263 that were sold between June 23, 2022 and February 2, 2023.

Both lots were sold at major retailers Coles, Woolworths, Chemist Warehouse, Amcal, and Big W.

“We can confirm that, compared to the number of units sold, the cases of this reaction are very low,” he said.

“However, we take the health and safety of our customers very seriously and as a precaution we are recalling two batches of the product.”

The recall sparked fury online with frustrated parents commenting on the company’s Facebook warning about how the eruption allegedly injured their children.

“My daughter received severe burns, which took a little over three weeks to heal,” wrote one mother.

“We used to swear by this cream as it was the only one that worked for us, but we will never use it again. We still have the cream in question, and yes…it is one of the affected lot numbers.

“I can’t believe it took so long to remove it.”

The company has offered full cash refunds or gift cards for the return of recalled lotions of creams.

Another said: ‘Our girl was the same! We got hospitalized because of how bad she got her butt off.

‘The hospital had never seen a rash this bad. We are still having dermatology appointments because of it.

‘I feel so angry now that I know the product was the problem and I am heartbroken for my baby girl and all these other poor babies this has happened to!

“I am in tears knowing that the cream we were using was only making her rash worse.”

Church & Dwight defended the product in its withdrawal, saying that nothing else in the Curash range was affected.

“All of our products, including Curash Nappy Rash Cream, undergo rigorous safety evaluation procedures before being released to the market, including clinical studies for safety and sensitivity,” he said.

‘All Curash products are manufactured in strict compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices.’

Customers with product from either of the two affected batches have been advised to stop using it immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a cash refund or send it directly to the company in exchange for a gift card.
