Chromebook users get one central hub where they can download apps and games for their devices, so they don’t have to worry about where to find the different applications they need.
Whatever app you want to download – be it Android, Linux or a Progressive Web App (PWA) – you can get it from the App Mall.
If Chrome out of the box According to reports, the App Mall in ChromeOS will allow users to explore apps outside of the Google Play Store, allowing them to go deeper into customizing their laptops and do more on their Chromebooks.
A common complaint that many people have when it comes to switching to ChromeOS is that they are often limited to the Play Store, and searching for apps outside of it can be a burdensome experience.
So the idea of the App Mall is that whatever you want in terms of all the above software, you can get it in one convenient location. So this is quite exciting news! And perhaps more people will be tempted to use ChromeOS, given this easy way to access many more apps.
You can currently preview and try out the App Mall by enabling the ‘chrome://flags/#cros-mall’ flag in the Canary channel of ChromeOS 126. The App Mall icon will then be added to the app. launcher.
Chrome Unboxed posted a video on YouTube showing off the new app hub and it works pretty much as you’d expect. Once you find the app you want, screenshots and reviews will be displayed and you can choose which source you want to download the app from. It appears that you can only download Android apps in preview at the moment, but that will obviously change as development progresses towards an official release.
