Aussies slam unhinged Christmas Day celebration at Bronte Beach after thousands of revellers leave behind trail of rubbish for a second year in a row – as shocking images reveal extent of chaos

Disgusted Australians have slammed the trail of destruction left by thousands of drunken Christmas revelers on a popular Sydney beach.

Shocking photos taken on Boxing Day morning have revealed scenes of utter chaos and carnage at Bronte Beach in the city’s exclusive eastern suburbs.

Thousands of cans, beer and wine bottles, discarded cardboard boxes and empty cooler bags were scattered across the usually pristine grass behind the small but popular beach.

A bikini-clad partygoer was pictured lying under a towel amid the rubble, while council rangers estimated at least 10,000 tourists and backpackers had descended on the area.

Council workers had scrambled to care for the huge numbers after the mess last year sparked outrage among the well-heeled locals who call Bronte home.

An additional 250 rubbish bins were placed on Bronte Beach and additional toilets and a urinal were installed to deal with the attack.

But the measures appear to have had little effect as the area was completely destroyed by Thursday morning.

One Australian angrily said those ‘who left Bronte Beach like a rubbish dump are a disgrace, just as the council doesn’t provide enough bins and the police don’t control the crowds’.

A self-identified Bronte resident said at 10.30pm they witnessed ‘dozens of young people coming up Bronte Rd, drinking and the boys pissing in the houses along the street’.

‘I know because my house was one of them. I saw three men pissing into my house,” the local resident wrote online.

“Unfortunately, by the time I ran outside with a garden hose, they were gone. We were there hosing down the steps and paths and talking to the locals who were just as disgusted and had seen it happening all along the road.”

The woman criticized the police for not taking action and wondered why the alcohol-free policy was not enforced.

“There was no sign of police cars patrolling the area at 10am as we were clearing up, but there were many very drunk young people with very full bladders relieving themselves,” she added.

Mayor Will Nemesh of Waverley Council said staff had been ‘at full strength’ from 8pm on Wednesday as the clean-up began.

“I have been and will continue to work directly with Council staff to ensure the area is cleared as quickly as possible,” Mr Nemesh said in a Facebook post late on Wednesday evening.

‘Overall, the reports from the police, our rangers, extra security and our lifeguards have been positive: there was very minimal anti-social behavior and the extra measures introduced this year have had a positive outcome compared to previous years.

But a local told Daily Mail Australia they should ‘stay away from Bronte over Christmas’ to avoid the busy beach and surrounding parks.

Among the large number of bikini- and boardie-clad foreign visitors this year was former England Test cricket captain Michael Vaughan.

Although the crowds were well behaved, concerns about the rubbish left behind led to an earlier warning from the City of Waverley Council to people planning to spend the day authorities would be present at Bronte Park and the beach.

Councilor Joshua Spicer had previously tried to address local concerns, saying the council planned to implement new cleaning measures this year.

“This includes additional rangers, security and police, a dedicated cleaning crew with more trash bins and garbage trucks,” he posted online Tuesday.
