Christine McGuinness shrugs off the prospect of finding new love following split from ex-husband Paddy after 14-year marriage: ‘I don’t think I’m missing anything’

Christine McGuinness has shrugged off the prospect of finding new love for herself following her split from her ex Paddy.

In 2022 it was announced that Paddy, 50, and Christine, 35, who share three children, split after 14 years together.

Two years later, as she and Paddy are divorcing, Christine has revealed that meeting a new romantic partner is not a priority for her.

The TV personality said her life is already “full of love” and she enjoys having time for herself and being independent.

In an interview with Radio times, Christine said, “I feel like my life is full of love for my children. I am very lucky, my heart is full. I don’t think I’m missing anything.

“I will share (my life) with my children forever and Patrick will always be there as their father, but I want to have time for myself.”

Christine added, “Those nights when I’m at work and I don’t have to call anyone and say, ‘This is where I am.’

‘I want that freedom.’

Speaking of BBC Two series of Pilgrimage: The Road Through North Wales, where Christine will climb Mount Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) without any training, Christine opened up about one of the things she found most challenging.

Instead of walking, Christine said meals were the biggest challenge for her.

She was diagnosed with autism three years ago while making a documentary with Paddy – about caring for their three young children, who share the condition, and revealed she is used to making life as simple as possible for herself and her neurodiverse family , including during meals.

“We all like to eat beige foods like toast, chips and bagels – it’s not too sensory for us in terms of smell, taste and texture,” she said.

‘This used to be one of the reasons I never ate with other people. I was almost ashamed and felt strange, so I made excuses not to go to weddings or parties. Eating at home with my children is fine with me, but eating together was something new for me.’

But her fellow walkers — former reality star Spencer Matthews, ex-traitor Amanda Lovett, nature presenter Michaela Strachan, journalist Sonali Shah, comedian Eshaan Akbar and actor Tom Rosenthal — were understanding, she said.

“The company I worked for helped tremendously,” Christine said. ‘They were curious about me, but not judgmental. In the past I wouldn’t have explained myself properly. But they listened and they got it.”

It comes after Christine admitted she’s ‘not ready for anything serious’ with a new partner during the first episode of Pilgrimage.

Christine travels to Wales for the three-part series and has already started her journey to freedom, but not away from her ex.

In the series she revealed: ‘The only life I’ve known is with Patrick and I’m not sure what my path is now that I’m on my own. I have to find out.

‘Patrick and I have been separated for almost two years now, but I don’t think I’ve fully come to terms with the separation yet and I know that one day I will have to.

“Everyone has hard times, everyone has challenges, but if you could just sort out all your traumas or worries and throw them away.

‘The biggest change is coming, I’m just afraid of it.’

Christine has no plans to move out of the family home she shares with the comedian as they co-parent their twins Penelope and Leo, nine, and Felicity, six, who all have autism.

Despite Paddy admitting he has been together for a few days since the pair split, Christine revealed she is terrified of dating another man.

Christine told me The sun‘s TV mag: ‘I don’t see myself getting married again. I just don’t. I’ve never had time for myself. I was with Patrick since I was 19 and now I’m single for the first time in a long time.

‘I don’t have to tell anyone where I’m going or what I’m doing. That’s so liberating and something I’m not sure I want to give away again.”

The couple now sleep in separate bedrooms in their Cheshire country house, but they try to keep family life as normal as possible.

Christine said: ‘Not much has changed because we are a family, regardless of what is between me and Patrick. We still live in the parental home and are still raising the children together.

‘We understand what parenting is and how important it is for both of us to be in the children’s lives, so we support each other. We both want to be there equally to enjoy those moments.’
