Speaking to Spencer Matthews on his Big Fish podcast, Christine said: ‘The first time I saw my dad clean properly was this year, and he got up and walked over to me for a hug.
“And I’ve never seen him get up without help. It just took me back a little bit and I panicked a little and asked, “Are you okay?” and I started holding him, because wherever I’ve seen him I’ve had to hold him or grab a walking stick or he’s been in a wheelchair.’
She added, “There was just this big, strong man standing in front of me, and I actually couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
“He’s 16 stone, he’s about 6ft tall. Before that he was always slumped and quite weak.

‘It was like looking at a brand new person. He’s always had his personality, but now it’s so much better.
‘And he’s so happy, that’s the best. I love that he’s healthy, but it’s great to see him really happy.
‘He’s in his 60s now and hopefully he’s got a few good years left in him and can enjoy life. I enjoy seeing him, we laugh so much more, we talk a lot more.”
