Christina Ricci suffered the loss of a beloved family member on Friday: her 15-year-old dog Karen Carpenter.
The Wednesday star, 44, took to her Instagram Stories on Sunday to share the sad news and post a sweet tribute to her pup.
“My beautiful little best friend Karen Carpenter passed away on Friday,” she began. Karen Carpenter is the name of a popular singer from the 1970s, whose hits included Close To You and We’ve Only Just Begun.
“She was a lady and the best little soul I ever knew,” Ricci wrote. ‘My best friend for fifteen years. Many of you knew her and loved her.
‘Apparently all dogs go to heaven. She hated other dogs so I hope she is in the people only area. She loved people,” she added alongside a heart emoji. “She was so nice.”
In the story, Christina – who last month revealed she no longer enjoys going to parties – also shared a photo of her son Freddie, nine, as he lay on the floor as a baby with Karen Carpenter next to him.

In the story, Christina also shared a photo of her son Freddie, nine, as he lay on the floor as a baby with Karen Carpenter next to him, saying: ‘She was Fred’s best friend’
“She was Fred’s first best friend,” she captioned the throwback snap on her IG Story.
The Yellowjackets star has shared many photos of Karen Carpenter over the years and the love she had for the dog and the dog for her clearly shone through in the photos.
The mother of Fred and daughter Cleo, two, is also a dog mom to Logan, Patrick and Magneto, aka Maggie.
The Addams Family actress grew up with pets – both dogs and cats – and loves them both equally. She had three dogs and a cat growing up.
“I am an equal opportunity animal lover. I really love cats as much as I love dogs,” Ricci said in an interview with People in 2022.
“Karen has been with me since I was about 29 years old. And I always say she’s my first baby,” Ricci said at the time.
“And as she got older, I wanted to make sure she not only lived as long as possible, but that she lived comfortably, happily, and without the ailments that older dogs suffer from.”
Not only was Karen Fred’s best friend, she was also close and protective of baby Cleo when she was born.
She always comes over and sits with the baby and lets the baby pet her,” she revealed, adding, “And Freddie would always sit with her in Karen’s dog bed.’

Ricci is a dog mom to three other dogs, Logan, Magneto aka Maggie (both pictured) and Patrick
The Casper star had a photo shoot for the cover of Perfect Magazine last month at the famous Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, for which her husband, celebrity hairstylist Mark Hampton, did her hair.
In the article accompanying the shoot, she revealed that her holidays are over and that she “really doesn’t like going out at night or going to parties anymore.”
“I like it when people come over and watch movies and TV with me,” she told the outlet.
She also said that being home is a bonus because her two children are “constantly being creative: drawing, painting, coming up with ideas about who they are, what life is like and who they want to be.”
