Christina Aguilera commemorates 21st anniversary of her album Stripped by sharing several sultry throwback snaps –  including TOPLESS image

Christina Aguilera commemorated the 21st anniversary of the release of her fourth album, Stripped, by sharing a series of sultry snaps to her Instagram account on Sunday.

The 42-year-old singer showed off a significant amount of skin in the photos, all of which were taken when she was in her early 20s.

The artist, who recently promoted her Las Vegas residency on Instagram, also shared a clip consisting of several snippets from the music videos for the album’s songs.

Stripped’s first single, Dirrty, was released in September 2002 and quickly became controversial due to its sexually explicit lyrical content.

The song’s music video premiered that same month and was met with a similar level of controversy for its depiction of various fetishes.

Despite the negative response to her first single and its accompanying promotional clip, Aguilera’s fourth album met with great success upon its debut, peaking at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart.

After Stripped’s debut, four more singles were released, including Beautiful, Fighter and Can’t Hold Us Down.

The singer was also nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for her work on Dirrty, although that ultimately went to Santana and Michelle Branch.

The hitmaker embarked on a pair of concert tours, both of which took place in 2003, in support of her record.

Aguilera’s fourth studio album has since been certified 5x platinum in the United States.

Several high-profile artists, including Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus, have since cited the record as a major influence on their own work.

The hitmaker opened up about working on Stripped during an interview with Rolling stonestating that she wanted the album’s content to be in stark contrast to her previous work.

“The music I made on my first album was still under the thumb of many older men and women,” she recalls.

Aguilera further addressed the controversy surrounding the first single from her record.

“It made me sad how conservative and judgmental a lot of people were, and I never came on stage to impose anything on anyone,” she said.

The performer then stated that she wanted to show a different side of her artistry with Dirrty.

‘This was the essence of stirring things up. “I wanted to get back on the scene and really shake it up for myself and do something different and a little bit rebellious,” she said.
