AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic broke the record set by one of his USMNT teammates to become the highest scoring American in a single season in Serie A.

Pulisic opened the scoring for Milan in the 59th minute of the match against Sassuolo. It turned out to be the only goal of the day, as Milan are third in Serie A.

In doing so, he set a new record for Americans in the Italian top flight and scored his sixth goal in the competition.

It improved the old record set by Juventus striker Weston McKennie in the 2020/21 season – the midfielder's first with the 'Old Lady'.

Pulisic has been a sensation for Milan since arriving from Chelsea this summer.

By scoring his sixth Serie A goal, he surpassed the old record for Americans in the Italian top flight, previously set by current USMNT teammate: Juventus's Weston McKennie

He is currently the team's second top scorer, behind striker Olivier Giroud, who has nine to his name.

Pulisic scored in both opening games of the season in Bologna and then again at home against Torino.

He had a bit of a dry spell before scoring again in consecutive games against Lazio and Genoa.

Pulisic's most recent goal in Serie A before this match came against Frosinone in a 3–1 win at home.

Away from Serie A, Pulisic scored a goal in a crucial 2-1 win over Newcastle United, which secured a Europa League spot in the closely contested Champions League Group F.
