San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffery made history Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings.

Despite trailing 16–7 at halftime, McCaffery’s touchdown late in the second quarter broke the record for consecutive games with a scrimmage touchdown by 16.

McCaffery passed OJ Simpson and John Riggins, who had 15 each.

However, there is one more record the 27-year-old could break if this streak continues. The all-time record for consecutive games with any touchdown belongs to Colts legend Lenny Moore with 17.

Christian McCaffery scored a touchdown against the Vikings late in the second quarter

The two-time Pro-Bowl player has scored a scrimmage touchdown in each of the last 16 games

McCaffery was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2017 as the eighth overall pick. In six seasons with the Panthers, McCaffery amassed 7,272 scrimmage yards and 50 scrimmage touchdowns.

In 2022, McCaffery was traded to the 49ers and has since led San Francisco in rushing yards. McCaffery also leads the NFL in rushing yards and touchdowns this season.

So far in his career, McCaffery has two Pro Bowl selections from 2019 and 2022. He was also a first-team All-Pro in 2019 and a second-team All-Pro in 2018.

Despite being able to close the gap late in the game, the 49ers lost 22-17 on Monday. Although this is San Francisco’s second straight loss, they still have a winning record, 5-2. The 49ers remain top of the NFC West ahead of their matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
