Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have announced the arrival of their fourth child, a son named Wren Alexander Stevens who was born via surrogate mother.
The couple shocked fans on Wednesday with news of their newest addition in a touching Instagram post featuring adorable photos of their newborn.
The proud parents had not shared with fans that they were expecting another child until now, but filled fans in with all the details prior to the birth in their post.
Their child was born on June 19, 2023 and is named in part after their surrogate mother Alexandra.
Wren’s arrival comes just months after Chrissy and her husband welcomed their third child together, a daughter named Esti. The couple are also parents to daughter Luna, seven, and son Miles, four.
The happy news came almost two years after she and John lost their son Jack 20 weeks into her pregnancy. She later revealed that her late son’s death was the result of a life-saving abortion, not a miscarriage as she originally said.

In her lengthy post, Chrissy described the surrogacy process, named her late son Jack, and watched Alexandra, “the most beautiful woman,” give birth to her child.
Chrissy described how she became pregnant again with Esti, despite initially not wanting to carry a child after losing her son Jack.
She was even pregnant at the same time as Alexander. Chrissy first learned she was expecting Esti, and not long after, Alexander became pregnant with Wren.
“For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted four kids. As a little girl there were 2 glowworms and 2 puppets in my arms all the time, helping me in my fantasy kitchen, watching Alf with me. We slept together every night and all got the same number of kisses so as not to make the others jealous. My mom always looked for the Pound Puppy with 4 puppies in her pouch, she had no qualms about opening them up and peeking inside before buying.
“After losing Jack, I didn’t think I could carry any more babies on my own. To be honest, I personally blocked a lot of my way of thinking during that time, but a clear memory is being surrounded by people who wanted to make sure I didn’t go through that pain and loss again.
“In 2021, we contacted a surrogacy agency, with our initial correspondence asking if we might have two tandem surrogates, each to bring us a healthy baby boy or girl. Gemini, a little?!
“At one point, early in our surrogacy journey, I came out of a therapy session, walked down and said to John, I want to try carrying one more time. If it doesn’t work, we’ll make it. We’ve already seen the worst. I promised it would be okay no matter what. I remember saying I couldn’t spend my whole life wondering if I should have tried again.
And so we started the IVF process again, the same process that gave us our beautiful Luna and Miles. We made new embryos. We did my transfer and were so happy to hear it worked – we were pregnant with our little girl, Esti.
“Around this time, we also met the most incredible, loving, compassionate surrogate we could ever imagine, Alexandra. I knew she was a perfect match for us the moment we spoke to her. All our wishes and dreams aligned. I wanted to be her friend, I wanted our kids to play, I wanted to eat together, I wanted to lay my head on her stomach and be able to feel the hiccups and kicks. I wanted them to be in our lives as long as time allows.
“The first embryo we tried with Alex didn’t survive and I will never forget how hard she fought to prepare for a second transfer. How much she’s given up on her own body – surgeries to have scar tissue removed, the mental toll it takes to go through all that on yourself, let alone other people.
“Not wanting to rush the process, we took a deep breath and… were just patient. I lay around, enjoying the first trimester of my pregnancy, with, of course, a little bit of anxiety that’s no different than any other expecting couple. As we crawled into the safe zone of my own pregnancy, we were overjoyed to learn that Alexandra had become pregnant with a little boy. Our little boy.
“We ate hot pot to celebrate, watched Vanderpump Rules with our bellies growing, our families merging into one over the past year.”
Chrissy described Wren’s birth and profusely thanked Alexandra for carrying their baby boy. They even included Alexandra’s name in Wren’s full name.
“A few minutes before midnight on June 19, I witnessed the birth of the most beautiful woman, my friend, our surrogate, in the midst of a little chaos, but with strength and pure joy and love.
“We want to thank you for this incredible gift you gave us, Alexandra. And we are so happy to tell the world that he is here, with a name that will forever be associated with you, Wren Alexander Stephens. Our hearts and home are officially full. And as for our Jack, we know both of their angel kisses are yours.”
