Chris Sutton has criticized Patrick Bamford as “a joke” after the Leeds striker appeared to criticize Jesse Marsch’s tactics after their 1-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The American was sacked as Leeds boss after the match with the club languishing in 17th place and having been winless in seven games.
The Whites dominated much of the clash at the City Ground, but they missed a number of chances in the first half and then battled to subdue a determined Forest in the second half.
After the match, Bamford appeared to question Marsch, as he stated that Forest’s defenders had enjoyed an easy afternoon as they “just had to focus on me”.
Bamford had also said: ‘We needed more runners to get past me to drag [Forest’s centre-backs] out of position and create a little more space. ‘

Bamford appeared to criticize the former Leeds boss in public when he spoke after the match.
“The whole game was literally two against one, which made it difficult, and unfortunately I couldn’t find the answers to solve that.”
However, Sutton was not happy with Bamford and believed that he had made a mistake in speaking publicly about his manager.
“Keep him in the confines of the locker room if you feel like it,” Sutton said. BBC Radio 5 Live Monday Night Club.

It will be taken as a criticism of the coach and his tactics. It’s a joke for bringing that into the public domain.
‘[Bamford] He doesn’t strike me as someone who wouldn’t understand where comments like this would lead.
“He is criticizing the coach, the tactics. Things like this snow globe. It’s great that he’s honest, but it’s only going to cause trouble.
Bamford struggled to regain his form under Marsch, with the striker scoring just three goals in the last two Premier League seasons, as he has battled various injury issues.

He is a far cry from the 17 league goals he scored during the 2020-21 season in Leeds’ return to the top flight that saw him called up to the England squad in August 2021.
Managerless Leeds return to action on Wednesday when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford.
