Chris Stapleton visited a survivor of a fatal car crash that occurred while she was on her way to attend his concert with her family in June.
The country singer surprised Alex Moffett, 19, of Erie, Colorado at the hospital after learning she was on her way to his concert with her family when they were hit by another vehicle.
The Montana State University student had just had lunch with her family — her younger sister, their father and their grandmother — and together they were headed to Stapleton’s All-American Road Show concert in Kansas City.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the other driver was a 16-year-old teenager who fell asleep at the wheel and survived the crash.
Alex’s father Derek Moffett, 55, and her grandmother, Patricia Moffett, 83, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Alex and her younger sister Catherine Moffett, 16, were airlifted from Warrensburg to Research Medical Center in Kansas City.

During her long journey to recovery, her doctors learned that Alex Moffett and her family’s trip was primarily for the Stapleton concert and contacted the singer. However, Alex’s younger sister Catherine did not make it.
Alex survived the accident, but suffered a punctured lung and multiple fractures to her pelvis, ribs, arm, wrist and eye socket bones.
She has had to undergo facial reconstruction, an elbow replacement and wrist surgery.
On the way to Stapleton’s show, their father took them to visit their grandmother Patricia in Overland Park, Kansas; together they were on their way to visit Warrensburg, the town where their grandmother grew up.

During the same interview, Alex opened up about the devastating loss for her and her family, especially with the holidays approaching.
“Every time I look at a photo of my sister, my heart stops for a moment,” she said. “It’s really hard to just process it.
“My dad was my best friend ever,” she continued. “He was the best person.”
About the other driver, she added: “Obviously he didn’t mean to kill three people, but he took my whole family away from me.
“Part of me wants his life to be over and the other part of me wants him to just go on and live a really good life and make something of it and make a difference in the world.”
