After a blockbuster turn as the voice of Mario, Chris Pratt, the man with at least two voices, will bring Garfield to life next summer. The Garfield Movie. Don’t let the first heartbreaking minute pass you by The Garfield Movie‘s debut trailer is fooling you: this is an animated comedy and jokes are promised. According to the official synopsis from Sony Pictures, Garfield and his adopted brother Odie will undertake a “hilarious, high-stakes heist” in The Garfield Movie after meeting Garfield’s biological father, scruffy alley cat Vic. Samuel L. Jackson is Vic and joins Pratt alongside Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein and Bowen Yang.
The film’s first trailer hints at an overreliance on lasagna jokes, but… The Garfield Movie Certainly looks like Nice. And for Jim Davis fans, it’s chock full of Easter eggs, including at least two references to Binky the Clown. The trailer also graciously lets you know that there will be plentiful Olive Garden product placement.
The Garfield Movie is directed by Mark Dindal (Chicken Little, the Emperor’s new Groove) with a screenplay by Paul A. Kaplan and Mark Torgove (Spider city, George Lopez), and David Reynolds (Finding Nemo). The film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 24, 2024.
