Chris Hemsworth hits back at reports about his health after discovering he is genetically predisposed to Alzheimer’s disease: ‘It really kind of p***ed me off’
Chris Hemsworth has fired back over recent reports about his health.
The Hollywood star, 40, was filming his Disney+ docuseries Limitless in 2022 when he learned he was “between eight to 10 times” more likely to develop Alzheimer’s than the general population.
Shortly after the news became public, the actor stepped back from Hollywood.
And soon news reports began to appear that Chris was retiring, or that he had already developed the disease.
“It really drove me crazy because I felt like I had been vulnerable with something personal and was sharing it,” he said Vanity fair.

“No matter how many times I said, ‘This is not a death sentence,’ the narrative became that I have dementia and I’m rethinking my life and retiring and so on,” he added.
In a 2023 interview, Hemsworth revealed that he is at higher risk for Alzheimer’s disease after filming a confrontational episode about death for his Disney+ docuseries Limitless.
After having blood tests done for the program, he was told that he is “between eight to ten times” more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease than the general population because he is one of only two to three percent of humans have two copies of the gene APOE4.
And Hemsworth told Vanity Fair that his father, Craig, is starting to show early signs of the disease.
“I know my dad is going through a transition of acceptance around ‘I’m not this big, strong man with all the answers that everyone is looking to for guidance now,’” he said.

‘He’s much more of an observer now than he is leading the pack. It reminds me, because those are exactly the qualities I need: silence, observation, absorption, respect for the present moment.’
After the test, Chris changed his already extensive exercise routines and is now focusing more on his brain health.
In an interview with Men’s health last year he said he was “integrating more loneliness into his life.”
“I’ve always been fairly consistent in my training commitments, but lately I’ve really felt the importance of taking time for yourself, without any outside voice or stimulation, and making time for silence,” he explains .

Chris also makes sure he gets enough sleep and takes regular ice baths.
Over the past year, Hemsworth has also adjusted his fitness regimen.
‘I lift less often than before and I do more cardio and endurance training, which I much prefer to heavy bodybuilding sessions.’
In Limitless with Chris Hemsworth, Dr. Peter Attia suggested that regular exercise and good sleep are crucial to reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease manifesting.
“It really drove me crazy because I felt like I had been vulnerable with something personal and was sharing it,” he told Vanity Fair
He also recommended saunas, brushing and flossing teeth, and mental acuity activities.
Hemsworth told Dr. Attia also said he wanted to improve his work-life balance with more time for his family.
“It made me think about my kids and how they’re growing up and things are changing so dramatically, and I want to sit down, I want to take it in.”
