Chris Hemsworth bestowed with unique honour at Australian Reptile Park: ‘He’s just so big!’

Chris Hemsworth is known as one of the most handsome Hollywood stars.

But few giants of the silver screen have a spider named after them.

Now the 191cm tall Thor actor can claim that unique honor after the Australian Reptile Park named a huge new discovery ‘The Hemsworth’.

The funnel-web spider, one of the deadliest species in the world, was donated to a drop-off center in Newcastle, the park announced in a statement on Tuesday.

“This spider was so big compared to its peers that it reminded me of Chris Hemsworth and his brothers, and how they tower over the average human,” said spider keeper Emma Teni.

“We thought for sure it had to be a female because of its size, but on closer inspection it’s a boy.”

The oversized specimen, known as one of the world’s deadliest spiders, measured 9.2cm in length and is the largest spider ever donated to the Central Coast park.

‘Hemsworth’ will be part of the park’s anti-poison program,” Teni said.

According to the park’s statement, the spider’s fangs are strong enough to pierce a human fingernail.

Funnel webs are native to Australia and are known for hiding in cool and damp areas, such as gardens and sheds.

Funnel webs can kill a human in 15 minutes.

It comes after Elsa Pataky revealed how husband Chris persuaded her to move to Australia.

The Spanish actress, 48, lives in Byron Bay with her husband Chris, 41, and their three children: daughter India, 12, and twins Sasha and Tristan, 10.

But Elsa, who is originally from Madrid, admitted she suffered from one very specific condition before agreeing to uproot her life and move Down Under almost a decade ago.

Speaking to the Courier Mail, Elsa revealed how she told Chris she would only move to Australia if they lived on a sprawling farm where she could have horses.

“That was my deal with Chris,” she said. “I said I was going to move to Australia, but I wanted to live on an estate, a farm, and have horses, and he knew that.”

Luckily for Elsa, her dream came true and they now live in a sprawling $30 million, eight-bedroom mansion on a huge 4.2-acre plot of land in Broken Head.

Elsa also gave a candid insight into her relationship with Hollywood icon Chris and shared their secret to a happy marriage despite the many challenges they have faced.

“I think we all have this idea of this beautiful dream of marriage and loving each other and it’s all perfect, but it’s a lot more work than you think,” she said.

“It comes with so many challenges, but it’s wonderful to take on those challenges and learn about each other and how we change over the years and how we adapt to each other.

“You can think from the outside that a marriage is perfect, but they all have their stuff and they all need a lot of work.”

Elsa and Chris tied the knot just ten months after they first met and will celebrate 14 years of marriage on December 22, although she admitted they rarely remember their anniversary.

The glamorous couple married in a spontaneous ceremony while on holiday in Australia in December 2010, just three months after they first made their relationship public.
