Humphries’ choice for the title
It was a huge shock on Sunday evening when reigning world champion Luke Humphries was defeated 4-1 by Peter Wright.
It has to be admitted that Wright was on fire, averaging over 100 and hitting 70 percent of his doubles, but punters were still hugely surprised given Humphries’ brilliant year.
The 29-year-old may no longer be in action at Alexandra Palace, but he has still revealed who he would like to lift the trophy.

The calm before the storm
An eventful year
Let’s see what 2025 brings…
Celebrity spotting at Ally Pally
We saw Tottenham stars Brennan Johnson and James Maddison, Man City’s Kyle Walker and Southampton and England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in attendance on Monday evening.
I expect there will be many more big names today, so we’ll keep an eye on the crowd for you.
New Year, same Ally Pally
There have already been some amazing fancy dress outfits spotted at Alexandra Palace on New Year’s Day.
That’s one way to deal with a New Year’s hangover…
Is the door open for van Gerwen?
After Dobey vs Price, Michael van Gerwen will face Callan Rydz, one of the stories of the tournament.
It’s fair to say it’s been a tough year for Van Gerwen, but the Dutchman has shown signs of getting back to his best in recent weeks.
And with the likes of Luke Humphries and Gary Anderson out, the door is open for the 35-year-old to win his fourth World Championship – and first since 2019?
He recorded a 4-2 victory against Jeffrey de Graaf in the last 16 stage on Monday.
Price’s Palace protest
Who can forget this incredible moment from the quarter-finals two years ago?
We said Price was a bit of a pantomine villain at Alexandra Palace, but it seemingly became too much for the Welshman during the 2023 tournament.
Trailing 3-1 against Gabriel Clemens, he emerged for the fifth set wearing ear defenders, in a remarkable sign of defiance – or perhaps protest – against a hostile crowd.
Unfortunately, this unprecedented move didn’t work as Price was unable to avoid being eliminated by the German in a shocking result.
Chris Dobey vs. Gerwyn Price
First up we have Chris Dobey versus Gerwyn Price, pitting the world number 15 against the world number 10.
Price has always been something of a pantomine villain at Alexandra Palace, although we haven’t seen the Welshman get too much of a caning this year.
It promises to be a fantastic encounter against Dobey, who always finds a way to get into these big TV tournaments, even if he has never made it past this stage.
Today’s agenda
We really have a fantastic day in store in North London today, with four fantastic matches on the oche.
Below you will find the full schedule with expected start times for each match.
12:40 – Chris Dobey vs. Gerwyn Price
2:10 PM – Michael van Gerwen vs. Callan Rydz
