Chris Christie to announce White House run NEXT WEEK

Failed presidential candidate Chris Christie, the Trump-bashing former governor of New Jersey, will announce a new bid for the White House next Tuesday.

The The 60-year-old Republican throws his hat in the ring at an event in New Hampshire, launching an unlikely bid to eliminate leading contenders Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis. Axios reported.

Christie, who ran New Jersey from 2010 to 2018, ran against the real estate magnate in the 2016 primary.

But the larger-than-life former district attorney dropped out in February of that year after being beaten in New Hampshire, finishing a dismal sixth in the Granite State’s GOP voting.

Since leaving the White House, Trump has turned against the former president, calling him a “coward” and a “puppet of Putin.”

He has also attacked Ron DeSantis, the recently declared Republican nominee, for his “war on wake” battle with Disney.

Christie’s allies have formed a so-called super political action committee, or Super PAC, called “Tell It Like It Is,” according to the New York Times.

These self-designated independent organizations may raise and spend unlimited amounts of corporate, individual, or union cash on behalf of a candidate.

A one-time Trump whisperer, Christie has repeatedly teased a 2024 run over the past three years.

He broke with the ex-commander-in-chief when he claimed the 2020 election was stolen from him.

The former attorney has reportedly enlisted a number of veteran Republican political operatives who once advised on presidential campaigns for the late John McCain and Utah senator Mitt Romney.

They include Maria Comella, the ex-chief of staff of disgraced Democratic ex-Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo, who resigned in 2021 over allegations of sexual misconduct.

Brian Jones, the head of the PAC and Christie’s campaign manager-in-waiting, said the ex-governor is “prepared to face the hard truths that currently threaten the future of the Republican Party.”

“Now more than ever we need leaders who have the courage to say not what we want to hear, but what we need to hear,” he added.

Christie, who once called a 2024 bid “a huge risk,” has tapped into potential donors as he makes his pitch to be the leading anti-Trump GOP candidate.

His allies believe he can attract the independent voice that can defeat Joe Biden by November next year.

“Where are we going now, if you disagree with this country, the government may punish you?” the former governor of New Jersey said last month.

In a thinly veiled swipe at DeSantis, he added, β€œTo me, that’s what I always thought liberals did. And now all of a sudden we’re in this with a Republican.’

Christie hinted at the likelihood of a run in 2024 earlier in May, saying he was “deeply concerned” about a potential rematch between Trump and President Biden because it’s “bad for the Republican Party.”

He would join a crowded Republican field that already includes South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, ex-South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson.

Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and talk radio host Larry Elder are also in the running for the GOP nomination.

Mike Pence, who served as vice president in the previous administration, and New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu are also said to be considering a possible tilt in America’s top job.

But Donald Trump remains the runaway favorite in polls nationwide, as well as voter polls in key battlefield states like Iowa and New Hampshire.
