Chris Christie scoffs at Trump’s comments about his weight

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie had some choice words for Donald Trump after the latter mocked his weight — days after he was booed off stage at a Republican religious conference for bringing up his outspoken GOP rival.

Less than two days away from that ordeal, Christie, 60, appeared on Fox News to add to some of his comments Friday about the ex-president — who he claimed “let us down,” character ‘ fog and ‘our country makes’. smaller’ as head of state.

In turn, when host Howard Kurtz asked him about some of the criticism he received from his old GOP rival — who he will now face again in 2024 — Christie sneered, claiming he was unaffected.

In particular, Kurtz pointed to recent comments by the 77-year-old Trump, who attacked his Tristate counterpart’s advanced weight — including a manipulated video on Truth Social that appeared to show the New Jersey native eating an all-you-can-eat buffet.

The couple’s war of words comes shortly after Christie announced he would run against Trump in the upcoming GOP election, and after Christie took the time to reprimand Trump for his federal case, as well as another recently wrapped up in Manhattan .

During the MediaBuzz sitdown on Sunday, Kurtz briefed Christie — who previously supported Trump after his 2016 loss — about the recent, repeated attacks on his physique.

He asked, “When Trump started hitting you back on a number of fronts, he was targeting your weight — what was your reaction to that?”

Christie immediately dismissed the question and let out an audible sneer. ‘What? Like he’s some Adonis?’ snapped the conservative sarcastically. ‘Please.’

He began tearing up his fellow Republican for actions he found not only childish, but banal and thoughtless.

‘I don’t know what his point is. You know what it is? It’s like a kid,” Christie said, about a month after celebrating Trump’s recent loss in the Big Apple at another meeting with Fox, when he hinted at a second presidential bid.

“It’s a schoolyard bully teasing and making fun of you.” Christie went on to tout what he billed as his “message” to the burning former head of state.

He said, ‘I don’t care what he says about me. I don’t care what he thinks of me”—to quickly add, “And he should take a look in the mirror once in a while.”

In doing so, Christie said, “Maybe he’d take the weight off his list of critiques.”

Earlier in the interview, Christie fought back questions from Kurtz about his credibility since he had previously supported Trump, only voicing his distaste for the president after the 2020 election.

To that, the New Jersey Republican claimed, “We all have different breaking points, Howie. We all need to have a moment when we say enough is enough. That was my moment.’

When asked if he waited too long to come to that conclusion, Christie replied no, “I don’t think I waited too long.”

Elaborating, he said, “I think the right thing to do is try to make the person who sits in the White House the very best president he can be for the whole country.”

‘That’s what I was trying to do. It turned out that I had failed. So if you want to criticize me for not changing Donald Trump despite my best efforts, I will plead guilty.”

Less than three weeks prior — after Christie announced his presidential aspirations — Trump posted an edited video of Christie looking like the politician was announcing his campaign at an all-you-can-eat buffet.

An accompanying caption on the ex-president’s Truth Social account poked fun at Christie even more — as well as his speech linking Trump to the Harry Potter villain “Voldemort” and calling him a “lonely, selfish, selfish mirror’. pig.’

The comments weren’t the first time Trump slammed Christie’s weight, with the ex-president posting another photoshopped buffet photo in 2022.

On Friday, Christie was berated at the Faith and Freedom Coalition Policy Conference in Washington after she belittled Trump.

He started his set by saying he planned to talk about “character” before hammering the former commander-in-chief halfway through — prompting boos and cheers of “we love Trump!” of the crowd.

“I’m running because he left us,” Christie said.

“He has let us down because he is not willing, he is not willing to take responsibility for the mistakes made. And all the flaws he has. And all the things he’s done.

“And that’s not everyone’s leadership, that’s leadership failure,” the former New Jersey governor added.

That remark led to loud boos from the public. “You can jeer at me if you want,” he retorted.

‘But this is the point. Our faith teaches us that people should take responsibility for what they do. People need to stand up and take responsibility for what they do,” he continued.

Christie noted that as soon as he started criticizing Trump, the ex-president started berating him.

“And belittle me,” Christie offered. A handful of people started a “we love Trump” chant. “And you can love him all you want,” Christie replied.

Christie endorsed Trump in 2016 after dropping out of the race following his own sixth-place finish in New Hampshire.

Trump reposted an insult to his longtime adviser Roger Stone on June 1.
