Chris Christie says neither Trump nor DeSantis should be president

  • He said the “porn star” payoff doesn’t reflect well on Trump’s “character.”
  • Christie has said he will decide on his own plans in May

Former New Jersey Governor Christie showed some of his signature blunder in an interview when he mocked Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, then revived DeSantis’ own “porn star” attack on former President Donald Trump breathed in.

Christie, who hugged Trump after defying him in 2016, belittled DeSantis’ ongoing feud with Disney in Florida — in a clash that has made DeSantis national headlines in his fight against “wake up” policies, but also saw him face a setback when Disney lawyers blocked his attempt to wrest custody by drafting a King Charles clause.

“I don’t think Ron DeSantis is conservative based on his actions towards Disney,” Christie Semafor said Tuesday in an interview.

He cast the DeSantis push as an attempt to silence the company.

“Where are we going now that if you disagree in this country, the government is allowed to punish you? To me, that’s always what I thought liberals did,” Christie said. “And now all of a sudden we’re running for a Republican governor here.”

“I’m all for the use, the proper use of government power to achieve commendable goals,” he said, before accusing DeSantis of not anticipating relapse.

‘If you are going to use those levers, you have to look around the corner to see what that will yield. That he had taken the action that he had taken against Disney, and that he had not foreseen that Disney would do what they did in response, which is to take over completely…that is not the man I want to sit in front of President Xi and negotiating our next deal with China or sitting in front of Putin and trying to find a solution to what is happening in Ukraine,” he jabbed.

“If you can’t see what Bob Iger made for you around the corner. I mean, I don’t think that’s very imposing,” he said of the Disney CEO, who was the former ABC News honcho.

Christie finally threw his support behind Trump in 2016 and then helped oversee Trump White House transition plans, which were thrown out.

While contemplating his own potential run, he has signaled he will never support Trump again. On Tuesday, like DeSantis, he brought up Trump’s “hush money” payment fees to Stormy Daniels — a move that drew furious backlash from Trump when DeSantis did it.

“You have someone who had an affair with a porn star, paid her $130,000 to cover it up, to keep that information from the American people… That’s not the character of someone I think should be president of the United States should be,” Kristie said.

Still unspecified, the charges mark the first time in history that an ex-president has faced a criminal case — and the exact charges are expected to be announced in the coming days. The decision - announced Thursday afternoon - also marks the end of a year-long investigation into $130,000 paid to Stormy Daniels, reportedly to buy her silence on their affair

As for potentially getting in the ring herself, Christie said, “We’ll make a decision in the next few weeks.”

He pointed to May earlier and said, “If you want to take this seriously, you probably have to make a decision for May.”

He said no presidential election is the same, brushing off a question about whether 2024 could turn into a free-for-all like 2016, allowing Trump to flourish.

“I bet this race won’t be more than seven or eight people,” he said. We had 15 on the ballot in New Hampshire [in 2016].’
