Chris Christie believes Hunter Biden will definitely serve jail time even with a PLEA and won’t get another ‘sweetheart deal’ after it spectacularly collapsed in court

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie predicted Friday that Hunter Biden would have to serve prison time even if he reached a new plea deal.

Christie, who is running for the 2024 Republican nomination, spoke with NBC's Andrea Mitchell on Friday afternoon.

On Thursday night, Hunter Biden was charged with tax evasion, with federal prosecutors alleging that the president's son spent nearly $5 million on a lavish lifestyle between 2016 and 2019 while failing to pay $1.4 million in federal taxes.

“I'm sure he could negotiate a plea deal at this point, but it's not going to be the kind of sweetheart deal he got before,” said Christie, a former federal prosecutor. “And I suspect that with the combination of the gun charges and the tax bills, Hunter Biden will have to spend some time in jail.

The tax charges against Hunter Biden carry a maximum prison sentence of 17 years.

“He's facing what he should have faced from the beginning, which is felony tax bills,” Christie explained. “When you're involved in millions of dollars in tax evasion. That's a crime. And the same goes for the weapons offense charge.”

“And you know, he's facing these charges because the government has evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that he committed these crimes,” the former prosecutor added.

In September, Hunter was indicted by Special Prosecutor David Weiss on three weapons charges, including making false statements on a federal firearms form, making a gun store appearance and possessing a firearm as a prohibited person.

The younger Biden had denied using drugs when he filled out a gun application in 2018.

Federal law prohibits drug addicts from being firearm owners.

These charges came after the so-called sweetheart deal collapsed in court in August.

“I had said weeks before that the judge would never approve such a charitable plea and I think his lawyers gave him terrible advice,” Christie said.

Christie predicted Hunter's legal ordeal would extend beyond Election Day 2024.

Hunter's weapons charges carry a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

Thursday's indictment included a litany of embarrassing allegations about the first son's spending habits, including that he had spent $870,000 on prostitutes, sex club memberships and pornography.

Hunter “spent this money on drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels and rental properties, exotic cars, clothing and other items of a personal nature, in short, everything except his taxes,” the indictment said.

This breakdown includes $683,000 on “diverse women” and nearly $400,000 on “clothing and accessories.”

It is also alleged he spent $188,000 on “adult entertainment” and withdrew $1.6 million from ATMs.

This period of Hunter's life was well documented in his memoir, Beautiful Things, which discusses his addiction to alcohol and crack cocaine.

The government bill showed that the younger Biden had spent $71,869 on rehabilitation during this period.

These two cases come as President Joe Biden already faces a tough reelection fight, with Republicans eager to showcase Hunter's stumbles and try to tie the president to his son's foreign affairs deals in Ukraine and China.

However, Christie predicted Friday that Hunter's legal drama would extend beyond the 2024 presidential election.

“I suspect the gun charge could potentially happen before the election, but given the tax bills that have just been filed, I suspect there won't be enough time to get that started before the election,” Christie told Mitchell. .
