A young woman who was chased in the street by two men and shot dead days before Christmas had committed a series of criminal offenses and even spent time in prison.
Police believe Chloe Mason, also known as CeeJay, from Caboolture on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, was attacked in the middle of the night and tried to flee down a suburban street when the pair gave chase.
Police attempted to revive the 23-year-old before paramedics arrived, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The murder weapon has yet to be recovered and the two mysterious men remain on the run. Detectives believe the attack was not random.
Daily Mail Australia can reveal that Ms Mason was facing a range of charges in the at the time of her death Brisbane Magistrates and Supreme Courts.
She was previously sentenced to 18 months in prison after being convicted of supplying drugs.
A close friend took to social media to pay tribute to her ‘prison sister’, recalling how they communicated through prison air vents during evening lockdowns.
“Rest in peace CeeJay Mason,” the post began. “We will all miss you so much, my prison sister, fly high huni.”

One day after her murder, a chilling photo emerged on social media showing Ms Mason making a gun with her hand.
Investigators are setting up a task force of local and specialist homicide detectives to try to give the young woman’s family answers.
One witness said they heard “about three or four gunshots and then some wailing.”
Residents of another property down the street were taken in for questioning, although detectives say there are no confirmed suspects.
“We have a number of witnesses assisting us at this time, but we have no one in custody,” said Detective David Harbison.
‘It is a tragedy to lose such a young life in such a violent way, so we will get to the bottom of it. It’s the best thing we can do for the family at this time.”
On Sunday, Mrs Mason’s devastated sister launched a fundraising campaign to share a heartbreaking message.

“Chloe was chased by two men and fatally shot on December 22, 2024 in Brisbane,” Hannah McKone wrote on GoFundMe.
“Chloe was only 23 years old.”
‘Because Christmas is so close, her family has no savings or financial resources to give her a funeral.
‘We kindly ask for help and support. All money donated will go directly towards Chloe’s funeral service.’
Another sister, Danni Mason, remembered Chloe as a “daughter, a sister, an aunt and a friend… who was loved by many.”
“This loss has devastated our family and we are struggling to come to terms with this so close to the holidays,” she wrote.

“As sisters, we grieve for the things she won’t experience, all the things we won’t be able to share, and the memories we won’t make. She was an incredible woman.”
As of Monday afternoon, the GoFundMe has raised more than $7,000 in donations.
‘The response was overwhelming. Thank you everyone very much for your support. The family truly cannot thank the broader community enough,” the GoFundMe campaign said.
“We started looking into funeral arrangements and we didn’t expect how expensive it would be. There is $4,600 set aside for Chloe’s burial plot.”
