A grieving family has broken its silence after a young woman was chased down the street by two men and shot dead just before Christmas.
Chloe Jade Mason, 23, could not be revived after she was found unconscious outside a property in Caboolture on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast shortly after midnight on Sunday.
Police believe the young woman was shot while “being attacked by two male individuals,” who are still on the run.
Mrs Mason’s heartbroken loved ones took to social media to pay tribute on Sunday.
“Mourning the life you never got to live and the experiences we didn’t get to share,” Sister Hannah McKone wrote.
“You would have been a great mother.”
She added that she had to “swallow my pride and ask for help” through a GoFundMe to cover the costs of her sister’s funeral.
‘Because Christmas is so close, her family has no savings or financial resources to give her a funeral. We kindly ask for your help and support,” she wrote.
Tributes have poured in for 23-year-old Chloe Jade Mason (pictured) just hours after she was attacked and shot by two men in Caboolture, north of Brisbane, on Sunday.
Another sister, Danni Mason, remembered the young woman as a “daughter, a sister, an aunt and a friend… who was loved by many.”
“This loss has devastated our family and we are struggling to come to terms with this so close to the holidays,” she wrote.
“As sisters, we grieve for the things she won’t experience, all the things we won’t be able to share, and the memories we won’t make. She was an incredible woman.”
Detectives are treating the death as a homicide and have launched a manhunt for the two men responsible.
“Initial investigations indicate that the deceased was assaulted by two male individuals, who may have chased her through the railway parade,” Detective Inspector David Harbison said.
“During that assault, the deceased suffered a gunshot wound. While the public nature of this crime is alarming, police do not believe this is a random attack.”
Neighbors told the ABC they heard several gunshots shortly before the woman’s body was found.
“I heard about three or four gunshots and then a little bit of wailing, and then I heard a guy yelling, f*** c***,” one person recalled.
“(It was) very scary.”
Police have yet to identify two male perpetrators who they say chased Ms Mason (pictured) down a road before she was shot
Another added: “We know everyone. We are like a little family. We take care of everyone on the street.’
Police added that Ms Mason’s family are ‘devastated’.
“It is a tragedy to lose a young life in such a violent way,” he said.
Police have no suspects and are calling on anyone with information to come forward.
‘There are people who know who these people are. So do the right thing for them,” Inspector Harbison said.
“A young 23-year-old has lost her life in tragic circumstances, so do the right thing and come forward,” Detective Inspector Harbison said.
Police have established a crime scene at the scene and set up Operation Whiskey Cortland with the assistance of homicide detectives to investigate the case.
