Chloe Jade Mason ‘turned up with a rifle at alleged killer’s home’ – before she was gunned down ‘in self defence’ in Caboolture street, Brisbane court told
A lawyer for one of the men charged in the shooting of Chloe Jade Mason days before Christmas has claimed she came to the suspect’s home armed with a gun.
Codye Ian Thomson, 29, of Marsden and Kaine Raymond Thomson-Gleeson, 32, of Caboolture, were first mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The pair were arrested without incident in Logan, south of Brisbane, on Monday and taken into custody.
Warrants were issued for the brothers’ arrest after Ms Mason, 23, was allegedly chased and shot on Railway Pde in Caboolture on December 22, dying at the scene.
Speaking outside court, Thomson-Gleeson’s lawyer Ken Mackenzie claimed his client had acted in response to an armed threat from Ms Mason.
“What is not in dispute in this case is that Chloe Mason came to the front of Kaine’s house armed with a gun,” Mackenzie said.
A lawyer for one of the men charged in the shooting of Chloe Jade Mason has claimed she was armed with a ‘gun’ when she showed up at his client’s home.
Codye Thomson, 29, and Kaine Thomson-Gleeson, 32, have been charged with murder
‘Kaine explained to the police that he did not kill Chloe. What he did, he did to defend his home and his family from an assassination attempt.”
Mr Mackenzie disputed the police account of his client’s arrest, claiming Thomson-Gleeson was meters from a police station and was about to hand himself in when he was detained.
Neither Thomson, whose job as a meat worker was mentioned in court documents, nor Thomson-Gleeson, a plasterer, had to appear in court.
Thomson’s lawyer Brendan Beavon asked for the case to be heard at the Caboolture Magistrates Court on January 13 so that a full review of the evidence could be ordered.
Police prosecutor Jordan Theed said the time frame “might be a little bit tight,” but he did not oppose the application.
Magistrate Lewis Shillito granted Thomson’s application.
Mr Mackenzie asked for the same application to be granted for Thomson-Gleeson when his client’s charges were mentioned.
“Your Honor has no jurisdiction to entertain an application for bail,” Mr Mackenzie said.
Mr Shillito also ordered that Thomson-Gleeson’s case be heard at the Caboolture Magistrates Court on January 13 for a final mention.
Police had been searching for the pair since the incident on December 22 in northern NSW.
Daily Mail Australia can reveal that Ms Mason was involved in a stabbing in 2016 that almost claimed her life
Mrs Mason’s devastated sisters shared their tributes on social media and launched a fundraising campaign to pay for her funeral hours after her death on December 22.
Authorities allege Ms Mason knew the two men and attended an address in Caboolture where an altercation took place and she suffered a fatal gunshot wound.
Daily Mail Australia previously revealed Ms Mason was involved in a stabbing that almost claimed her life, years before she was shot.
‘I’m in the [hospital] department now,” she shared on social media in 2016.
‘There are still nurses around me 24/7 checking on me [and] making sure everything is correct and nothing is out of place.
‘I have two drains in my heart to drain all the blood that leaks from the valve that was cut when the knife went 3 cm deep into my heart.
“I’m fighting through this with the love and support of my family and friends.”
The shocking revelation comes after it was revealed that her former boyfriend Kane Alexanderson, 18, was himself stabbed to death during a knife fight in 2020.
Hours after her death, Mrs Mason’s devastated sister launched a fundraising campaign to share a heartbreaking message.
“Chloe was only 23 years old,” Hannah McKone posted on GoFundMe.
‘Because Christmas is so close, her family has no savings or financial resources to give her a funeral.
‘We kindly ask for help and support. All money donated will go directly towards Chloe’s funeral service.’
Another sister, Danni Mason, remembered Chloe as a “daughter, a sister, an aunt and a friend… who was loved by many.”
“This loss has devastated our family and we are struggling to come to terms with this so close to the holidays,” she wrote.
“As sisters, we grieve for the things she won’t experience, all the things we won’t be able to share, and the memories we won’t make. She was an incredible woman.”
