She captioned the clip, “Traditional Chinese medicine has some of the best remedies for nasal congestion, developing both herbal formulas and acupressure solutions to relieve nasal congestion without the side effects of medications.

‘As early as the Warring State period (400-250 BC), Chinese medicine physicians had already developed a thorough knowledge of nasal congestion, or rhinitis.

‘The medical text Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon attributes rhinitis to ‘cold and wind from without’ which disrupt the immune system, combined with ‘heat from within’, also called inflammation.

‘Herbal remedies for nasal congestion aim to soothe inflammation in the nose and worldwide, as well as restoring normal circulation and regulating the immune system. TCM herbal formulas for nasal congestion are designed to address specific constitutional types, and are rarely one-size-fits-all.

‘Two of the best-known formulas for nasal congestion are Bi Yan Pian and Pe Min Gan, which target different constitutions: people with watery, clear or white nasal mucus will benefit more from Pe Min Gan, while people with thicker, yellow mucus ( which signals a stronger inflammatory immune response) should select Bi Yan Pian. We also have capsules and an allergy tea.’

At the beginning of the segment, she said, “Did you know that magnolia flowers are one of the best remedies for nasal congestion in Chinese culture?”

She then noted that “unlike Western remedies,” this herbal formula has no side effects and “no withdrawal symptoms.”

She then started explaining the herbal formulas that work best.

‘As far as herbal formulas go, one of the most effective herbal combinations is the combination of burdock fruit and magnolia flower bud.

“They have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antiallergic properties, and they are the most important herbal ingredients,” she said, showing two supplements containing the ingredients.

Nina then explained again what will prove to be most effective depending on the color of your slime.

“Those with watery or clear mucus will benefit most from BMIN GUN, while those with thicker yellow mucus should use BNP,” she added.

At the end of the clip, Nina also shared another way you can cleanse your sinuses and get some allergy relief.

She suggested that people on the Internet use a Gua Sha, a tool used in traditional Chinese medicine that helps you heal when you stroke it against your skin.

Nina recommends using a Gua Sha “an inch above your hairline” to find allergy relief.
