Chinese donors close to Hunter Biden gave $105 MILLION to UPenn where classified documents found

A prestigious American university, home to a Joe Biden-backed think tank where the former vice president left secret documents, raised more than $100 million from Chinese donors, leaked emails show.

The revelations, first reported by Fox News, will raise new suspicions about the presidential family’s cozy ties to foreign governments.

Disgraced first son Hunter Biden, 53, has been under the microscope for years for alleged influence thanks to his political connections.

They came to light after a series of emails were leaked from his laptop to the media highlighting how he used his ties to his father to land lucrative contracts abroad.

Financial records obtained by American for Public Trust, a transparency group, show that the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement has accepted millions of dollars in donations from China.

The eye-watering $105 million, nearly double what had been reported in the past, was snapped up in just three short years by businessmen close to the Chinese Communist Party.

It is the latest scandal to plague UPenn after it emerged that Joe Biden had left a trove of classified documents at the scene after his two-term stint as Barack Obama’s vice president.

Caitlin Sutherland, the APT executive who uncovered the numbers, said it would cast further shadows on the Biden family’s business dealings.

“Unfortunately, they don’t break down where the money was flowing once UPenn received the contributions,” she told DailyMail.com.

She said the documents submitted show “the incredible amount of support the university has received from foreign sources.”

There are several donors who have made money related to Hunter Biden’s past business deals.

Among them are a principal investor and a board member of a company that entered into an agreement facilitated by a Hunter-tied investment company.

Cathay Fortune, a private equity firm with a controlling interest in China Molybdenum – now called CMOC Group Limited – donated $1 million to UPenn in 2019.

CMOC bought a cobalt mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2016 with the help of an investment company founded by Hunter Biden in 2013.

The Wall Street Journal reported that as recently as 2020, the president’s eldest son held a 10% stake in the company he founded, BHR.

In 2018 and 2019, China Merchant Bank donated more than $5.5 million to UPenn, the data shows.

The bank described UPenn’s prestigious Wharton School of Business as a “strategic partner.”

The vice dean of Wharton’s Global Initiative has also called the bank a “longstanding partner,” according to China Daily.

But a spokesman for the Philadelphia-based university said not a single cent of the Chinese money went to the president’s think tank.

“No anonymous foreign funds have been contributed and no foreign funds have been directed to the Penn Biden Center,” the spokesperson told DailyMail.com.

“Penn reported all foreign contributions as required, and they have been publicly available for some time on the Department of Education’s website.”

But the Ministry of Education stopped publishing the identities of foreign university donors at the end of 2020.

Previously, there were also individuals who gave $250,000 or more, meaning the new records also show donors who were previously not in the database.

The donor list also includes several individuals associated with the Chinese Communist Party.

Joe Biden has close ties to the University of Pennsylvania. On Monday, he and the first family attended his granddaughter, Maisy,’s graduation in fine arts.

The president was seen with his son Hunter and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden.

The current commander-in-chief also became an honorary professor there in 2017 after leaving office as vice president.

He earned a total of $776,557 in just two years, double what most professors there earn, before founding the Penn Center the following year.

The think tank says its mission is to support Biden’s fight “to secure American global leadership by defending and advancing a liberal international order.”
