A Chinese dog owner painted his golden retriever scarlet to show it off on social media — as some internet users expressed concern it would harm the dog.

A video shows the owner, from Guangzhou, in southern China’s Guangdong province, holding the puppy — now a dark pink — and making him face the camera.

Shades of golden fur can still be discerned around the eyes and nose of the unimpressed-looking pup’s face, but most of his fur has turned a vibrant pink-red.

In another clip, it also looks like black glasses have been painted on the pet as the cameraman laughs.

Finally, the puppy is dragged across the floor to show the full extent of his transformation.

Some internet users expressed concern about whether the human hair dye the pet owner used would be harmful to the dog.

But the heavily tattooed owner claimed he spoke to a vet, who told him the dye wouldn’t harm his pet Golden Retriever at all.
