Footage of the eight-minute killing spree of an ‘incel’ mass murderer who claimed the lives of five people, including a little girl pushing her teddy bear in a pram, was shown to an inquiring jury.

In the chilling clips, 22-year-old Jake Davison is seen brandishing his firearm in the streets around his home in Plymouth, Devon, as he indiscriminately shoots innocent bystanders on August 12, 2021.

The video is a compilation of CCTV, doorbell and body camera footage, as well as audio from 999 calls, and was shown to the jury for the first time on Wednesday.

In the footage, trainee crane operator Davison is seen arriving home in his work clothes. It is there that he first killed her own mother Maxine, 51, shooting her to death after a fight, before leaving the property to hunt for more victims.

Davison, 22, killed his mother Maxine, 51, after a fight before shooting dead four others in Plymouth.

In the minutes that followed, Davison shot and killed three-year-old strangers Sophie Martyn, and her father, Lee Martyn, 43, in the street while they were walking their dog.

He then killed Stephen Washington, 59, a full-time caregiver for his wife, shooting him in the chest in a nearby park while walking his two dogs.

Artist Katherine Shepherd, 66, was shot and later died at Derriford Hospital from a gunshot wound to the stomach.

A 33-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman were also shot and wounded before Davison turned the gun on himself.

The footage, captured primarily on CCTV from neighbours, begins with Davison returning home at 3:22 p.m. Maxine Davison then leaves for a dental appointment before returning to the property on Biddick Drive.

Jake Davison’s mother, Maxine, was the first to be killed after a fight, before he went on a killing spree.

At 6:05pm, Maxine called her sister Marlene Hill, who then called 999 and is heard saying: ‘Your son has mental health issues. He has grabbed her by the neck and he’s not kidding.

Jake is then seen on CCTV leaving the house at 6:08 pm holding his shotgun after shooting his mother twice, leaving her for dead in a bedroom.

At the time, Sophie and Lee Martyn were walking down Royal Navy Avenue and Linear Park as they continued onto Biddick Drive.

The inquest heard that Lee was walking the family dog, Mabel, while Sophie was pushing her teddy bear in a pram, holding her father’s hand.

At 6:09 pm, Davison killed them by shooting Lee three times and Sophie once, first at a range of 20m and then at 1m.

At this point, the first calls to 999 from neighbors about a shooting in the street are reported.

One says: ‘I heard a knock. The person who did it lives at 17 Biddick Drive.

‘I think his name is Jake something. I heard a thump and thought what the hell is that.

Another caller said: ‘He’s come up the back of Biddick Drive, shooting other people I think. With an automatic weapon, he just shot all the time.

Davison first murdered his own mother, Maxine, in her nearby home, before going out and randomly killing schoolgirl Sophie Martyn, her 43-year-old father Lee, and dog walker Stephen Washington. He then walked across the street to a hair salon where he shot and fatally wounded 66-year-old Kate Shepherd.

It looks like a black automatic rifle. He could have killed his mother: the front door is open.

Davison then fires at a house on Biddick Drive wounding two other people.

At 6:11 p.m., another caller reported, “He’s shooting everywhere.” Davison then shoots Stephen Washington twice at Lineaer Park.

A passerby then sees a man with a gun walking towards him and runs off.

Kate Shepherd leaves Lidl at 6:09 p.m. and continues through Henderson Place. She is later seen Davison on CCTV walking down Royal Navy Avenue towards Henderson Place with the shotgun.

At 6:13 p.m., Davison shoots Mrs. Shepherd, his last victim, outside the Blush salon once in her abdomen at point-blank range.

Davison then walks from Henderson Place to Bedford Street and is seen on camera again. Dashcam footage shows a witness making a call to 999 reporting a gunshot. At 6:15 pm unarmed policemen arrived at the scene and began to give him first aid.

Seven minutes later, Davison walks back down Bedford Street towards Henderson Place.

He is seen on security cameras with the gun to his throat and, at 6:24 pm, shoots himself at the corner of Bedford Street and Henderson Place.

Police body camera footage captures the moment he ends his life as an officer hears yelling: “A man shot himself in the head.” Davison died of a self-inflicted wound.

Investigator David Miller, case officer for the major crimes team, reviewed CCTV today and said: “A maximum of eight minutes passed between the first and last shootings.”

Three-year-old Sophie Martyn and her father Lee, 43, were shot dead in front of horrified onlookers while walking their pet dog.

Kate Shepherd, 66, was Davison’s latest victim and was shot by the Blush hairdresser in Plymouth.

The inquest into the victims began at Exeter Racecourse on Tuesday and the coroner said the families would be concerned as to why Davison was allowed to legally possess a firearm under a sporting licence.

The gun was even confiscated by police following an assault charge against him, but it was returned to Davison shortly before the tragedy.

Earlier in the investigation statements were read on behalf of the families of all the victims.

Josh Davison, son of Maxine and brother of Jake, said: “Our involvement in this investigation is to help prevent this from happening in the future – an event like this cannot and must not happen again.”

“If we had one wish, it would be to be able to go back in time and allow everyone who participated in the events that led to this tragedy the opportunity to make changes to prevent it from happening.”

More heartbreaking details about Rebecca Martyn, Lee’s wife and Sophie’s mother, revealed that the little girl had been pushing a stuffed animal around in her stroller at the time she was shot.

They had been walking the family’s British bulldog Mabel at the time.

The investigation continues.
