More than ten children at a day care center developed a rash and swelling after taking an ‘unknown substance’ during lunch.
Paramedics rushed to treat several young children from the Milestones Early Learning in Keperra in north Brisbane on Thursday afternoon.
The children suffered from various reactions, including ‘redness in the face and body’.
“All children at the center have been exposed to an unknown substance during their lunch,” Queensland Ambulance wrote in a letter to concerned parents.

“These include redness of the face and body, swelling of the lips and face, agitation/irritation.”
The letter said the chance of a delayed onset of symptoms remains rare and urged parents not to panic.
Queensland Ambulance suggested that parents can check their child in with their GP if they have any concerns.
It recommended that anyone with concerns about their child’s breathing or airways take them to a hospital or call triple-0 immediately.
The center sent texts to parents just before 2 p.m. asking them to pick up their children after children developed an “unknown rash.”
“Medical advice is strictly followed,” the text read.
A spokeswoman for QAS said none of the children were taken to hospital by ambulance.
The children are all stable and the symptoms only lasted a short time.

A father who declined to be named said his child had not had lunch and had no health problems.
“It’s a good center. We’ve been here for over a year and there have been no problems,” he told the Courier Mail.
A spokesperson for Keperra, a spokesperson for Milestones Early Learning, said all safety policies and medical advice had been “strictly” followed during the scare.
It added that the cause of the rash is being investigated.
