A child molester applying for a private cell has lost his request to keep his case a secret.
Former Gold Coast yoga teacher Jason Daron Mizner was sentenced to 19 years in prison in 2018 after repeatedly assaulting his partner’s two-year-old girl over three months, while also assaulting the baby of a second woman in Thailand.
He pleaded guilty to more than 60 early 2000s child crimes, including more than 30 counts of rape and videotaping the assaults.
After being caught in Thailand, he served 11 years of a 35-year prison sentence before being deported and arrested by Australian authorities when he returned to Brisbane.
Mizner, currently at Wolston Correctional Center in Queensland, filed a petition with the court claiming he should not be sharing a cell because his multiple disabilities mean he cannot tolerate having a cellmate.
The case will be heard at the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal in April, but Mizner sought to close the hearing and withhold the evidence and outcome of the four-day hearing.

In a request to the tribunal, Mizner argued that his case should be kept private for the safety of both himself and a fellow inmate who will testify to support his claim.
He also said the media coverage puts himself and his witness at risk of ill-treatment while in prison and suppressing his application will “protect” his victims.
In a ruling from the tribunal published Friday, the tribunal determined that while they accept the claim that part of the community had “contempt” for sex offenders and that could increase the risk, the court proceedings would still not be closed.
“We simply do not think we can determine that conducting the proceedings, as usual, in a public courtroom is such a risk that it is necessary to take the exceptional step of closing the court and prohibiting the publication of all details. prohibit it to prevent it,” the tribunal said.
The tribunal also refuted Mizner’s claim that he was taking care of his victim’s families through a non-publication order.
The baby rapist’s prison witness told lawyers he would not give evidence unless it was under the guise of complete anonymity, which the tribunal agreed to.
Mizner previously sought an apology from the prison after they couldn’t guarantee him any cell, saying cellmates turning on the lights or going to the toilet at night caused his PSTD, which stemmed from more than a decade in a Thai prison.
The discrimination case alleges that he is disabled due to his mental illness, which makes him hypersensitive to sleep disorders.

Mizner had previously argued that his prison sentence for brutally raping his girlfriend’s daughter was “excessive,” despite only receiving 19 years in prison for the repeated assaults.
The volume of material submitted in Mizner’s sentencing resulted in the judge having to take a break to ensure he received a fair sentence.
During sentencing, Judge Leanne Clare said that despite 30 years of experience dealing with extreme cases of child abuse, she had struggled with the disturbing images of Mizner’s crimes.
“I’ve only seen part of it and it’s been a struggle to get the vision of your offense out of my mind,” Judge Clare said.
“I can’t imagine the horror of it for (the girl’s) mother.”
The court was told that Mizner, who was 31 at the time of the assaults, was in a relationship with the Australian girl’s mother before committing the crimes over several months.

While on vacation in Thailand, the girl’s mother found videos he had made and a range of other unrelated child exploitation material.
Mizner remained in Thailand, where he became romantically involved with a local woman before assaulting her young daughter and being arrested by Thai authorities.
Mizner’s sentencing was also delayed when a doctor preparing a psychological report for the court suffered a heart attack.
That report, the defense argued, found that a motorcycle accident when he was 21 left Mizner with brain damage, which left him “uninhibited.”
Judge Clare said it also showed he had a ‘love of babies’ and a medium to high chance of reoffending if he wasn’t incarcerated.
“Even a low risk of recidivism when it comes to raping babies is a substantial risk to deal with. If it’s medium to high risk…it’s alarming,” she said.
Judge Clare said Mizner showed no remorse for his heinous crimes.
