Child fights for his life after being trapped between two cars in the Melbourne suburb of Braybrook

A boy is in a critical condition after he and a younger boy were hit by a car while playing on a laneway in Melbourne’s west.

Emergency services were called to Braybrook shortly after 5pm on Tuesday following reports that a Toyota Prado had struck two parked cars in a rear lane between Wirraway Ave and Liberator Lane.

The Prado is then said to have hit two boys aged 8 and 3 before hitting another parked car.

The eight-year-old child became trapped between the vehicles.

Firefighters found the boy trapped between a 4WD and a small hatchback when they arrived.

They used rescue equipment to winch the vehicles apart and remove the boy.

The boy was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The three-year-old child was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The three parked cars that collided suffered extensive damage.

The driver of the Prado was arrested at the scene.

The Braybrook man, 48, is currently assisting police with investigations.

No charges have yet been filed as detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit have launched an investigation.
