A man is accused of taking a child he molested at a local train station to a park and then sexually assaulting him at knifepoint.
The 33-year-old is due to appear in court on Wednesday after being arrested on the street in Mt Druitt, in Sydney’s west, the previous afternoon.
According to police, he approached a youth at the local train station early Thursday morning and took the boy to a nearby park, before threatening him with a knife.
The man then allegedly sexually assaulted the victim and then drove away in a white van.
He was subsequently charged with aggravated sexual intercourse with a child between the ages of 10 and 14 and intentional sexual touching of a child.
The man was refused bail to appear in Mt Druitt District Court.
Jayne Doherty, Commander of the Sexual Offences Unit, urged members of the public to be aware of children in their communities and to report anyone behaving suspiciously.
“If you are a victim of sexual violence, please contact the police or emergency services,” she said.
‘You are supported in this difficult time.’
