Child actor who played minor role in Titanic STILL gets royalty cheques

A child actor who played a minor role in the classic film Titanic has revealed that he is still getting royalty checks for his role in the movie that was released 25 years ago.

Reece Thompson, now director of digital marketing in Utah, played the role of an Irish third-class passenger in James Cameron’s 1998 hit when he was five.

He appeared in one of the tragic and memorable scenes where the ship fills with water, as Reece’s character, his sister and his mother lie in their cabin waiting to die after not being given a place in one of the lifeboats.

Before that, he had one line – in which he asked his on-screen mom, “What are we doing, mommy?”

She replied, “We’re just waiting, honey.” When they’re done putting first-class people in the boats, they’ll start with us and we want to be ready, right?’

Titanic starred Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead roles and catapulted them to stardom.

More than 100 years after she sank while crossing the Atlantic on her maiden voyage, the RMS Titanic is still widely regarded as the most famous ship in history.

The luxury ocean liner — owned and operated by British company White Star Line — tragically sank in the early hours of April 15, 1912 after colliding with an iceberg, killing an estimated 1,517 of the 2,224 people on board.

Her remains now lie on the seabed about 350 nautical miles off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, though the fragile underwater wreck is deteriorating so rapidly that it could completely disappear within the next 40 years.

The ‘unsinkable’ liner had a speed of about 22.5 knots or 25 miles per hour, just 0.5 knots below the top speed of 23 knots.

Titanic’s captain, Edward Smith, drove the ship through the Atlantic Ocean, even though there had been ice warnings from neighboring ships.
