Chicken Nugget on Netflix: Bizarre Korean comedy drama about a man desperately trying to save his daughter who turned into a meat treat debuts today

Netflix has created perhaps the most special comedy series to date: Chicken Nugget.

Wondering what to do when your partner turns into a chicken nugget sounds more like an internet meme than a Netflix series with an esteemed director.

But that’s the plot of the ten-part series created by famous South Korean film director Lee Byeong-heon.

The show, released today, opens with a woman stepping into a strange machine that turns her into a chicken nugget. Viewers then follow her father and admirer as they embark on a quest to bring her back.

Despite sounding like a uniquely original plot, the K-drama took inspiration from an online comic series of the same name – Chicken Nugget – by Park Ji-dok.

Featuring a series of celebrity cameos, including model and actress Jung Ho-yeon, who also appeared in Squid Game, the show has caused a firestorm online, with fans eager to get into the series today despite feelings of confusion surrounding the plot.

Today Netflix released perhaps its most bizarre series yet: the Korean comedy Chicken Nugget (photo)

When Choi Min-ah (played by Kim Yoo-jung) visits her father (played by Ryu Seung-ryong) at his workplace, she comes across a bizarre machine and curious for answers, she steps in.

But then the unexpected happens: it turns her into a golden, crispy chicken nugget.

Her admirer Baek-joong (played by Ahn Jae-hong) and father, Ko Baek-joong, are aware of Choi Min-ah’s transformation and rush to bring them back, leading them into a crazy adventure.

The couple knows it is up to them to bring her back. They begin by tracking down the person who delivered the machine, which leads them to a scientist.

The path soon becomes arduous, filled with tireless nights longing for Choi Min-ah’s return to human form.

Things get even more complicated when the pair have to answer complicated questions, including what would happen if someone ate Choi Min-ah, especially since the nugget looks delicious.

Despite sounding absurd and somewhat traumatic, the comedy series takes a light-hearted approach, acknowledging the premise and providing audiences with comic relief throughout.

And anyone who knows South Korean stars will recognize quite a few faces, including Jung Ho-yeon, best known for her role as Kang-saw in Squid Game, and the Korean pop singer Jinyoung.

The announcement of the series quickly caused a firestorm on social media, with fans left stunned and equally excited by the premise. One said: ‘So not serious #ChickenNugget.

‘I just saw an ad on Netflix for a TV show about. Woman becoming a chicken nugget. I’m really confused,” said another.

A third wrote: ‘This is so absurd I might watch it.’

A fourth added: ‘Kim Yoo Jung, Jung Hoyeon and Jinyoung special appearances in Chicken Nugget Netflix Series!

Even though they are only cameos, their roles are important and have had a major impact on the series’ story. #ChickenNugget.”

Amused, a sixth wondered: ‘Who had the creative mind to write this script?’
